I wouldn't mind driving a Beaver, except for the new car smell.

Well, I guess someone has to "educate" Foley, so I will. I have listed the names of the cars and what was probably behind the names, not the stuff you made up. You obviously don't really have a clue.

Chevrolet Nova NEW STAR

Subaru Brat Sassy kid

Ford Edsel Wasn’t the name – it was the horse-collar grille

Suzuki Esteem We “esteem” things that are of value

Daihatsu Charade Never played “Charades,” Mr. Foley (somewhat too sophisticated for you, eh?)

Chevrolet Cavalier “Cavalier” also means “devil may care”

Hummer Most people thought the name a little “odd” Give you one, Foley.

Dodge Dart Swinger You took the name out of context of the time. If you weren’t there, you have no clue.

Chevrolet Citation You obviously haven’t heard of the great race horse Citation, either.

Ford Probe NASA’s “probes” project a much better image than your perverted mind.

Studebaker Dictator Well, “dictator” can (and did) mean someone or something that dictates the scene.

Ford Escort Ever heard of a destroyer escort,” Foley?

Ford Festiva Very festive name – so what’s wrong with it?

Volkswagen Thing Again, you took the name out of the context of the time. You obviously weren’t there (then or now).

Daihatsu Taft/Scat Ever heard of Jazz “scat” (How about Ella Fitzgerald?)?  Again, you have no clue

You must have too much tiume on your hands and are bored stiff. Can't believe that YOU actually believe any of the stuff you wrote (but, if you did, better look for another job).

Ouch, I owned a brand-spanking-new Ford Escort and I was holding down decent bucks. My enemies were jealous of it because their cars were worse. I never had a problem with it, either. Sorry I wasn't wealthier (yes, I'm being sarcastic), but I was busy earning a master's at the time. I'd have bought another one just like it, if they still made them. So stop dissing my car!!! And I used to daydream of one day owning a Ford Probe when I was little. It was the coolest-looking thing in the '80s.

The author is definetely not a car guy.  I just rented a VW Tiguan.  What the **** is that?  I didn't know how to pronounce it.  How about Toyota Yaris or the girlish sounding Prius.

You mention the "Thing", but why not the "Passat"? One of the worse names I have ever heard.

This is just another reason why morons should not be allowed to continue wasting valuable oxygen and water on this planet.  Whoever wrote this (note: I could care less who it is, even though it's ridiculously easy to find out, that's how little I think of whoever it is) is doing nothing more than filling space on a page to keep occupied.  All of these vehicles not only were originals, but also filled a void in car making knowledge that led to design improvements in other vehicles...call them stepping stones at the very least, but still noteworthy for their distinctiveness.  A trait NOT shared by the writer of this uninspired, uneducated waste of time to read.

Say what you will, I bought a well used a 1985 Cavalier when I was in college. It had a blown transmission, and about 75,000 miles on it at the time. I replaced the bad transmission, and drove the living SH%$ out of it for several years. The car was by far the most reliable I have ever had, including late model vehicles I now own. It also got 35 MPG, and that was a car built 30 years ago; kinda makes you wonder what is wrong wit hauto manufacturers today? They still cannot get much past that level of milage with all the modern technology.
