WS6 Trans Am:  It is a tax credit, not a deduction.  That means you get all your money back (well, assuming you pay taxes).

This is so hard for me to understand why so many Americans think that they will get 50 miles per gallon gas burn while driving a hybrid. The car goes down the road on gas they buy from the pump. Maybe $3.80 per gallon. If you divide mpg into $3.80 you spend $0.056 per mile. You buy spark plugs and wires and other gas related requirement to do tune-ups. You pay extra for a battery and at some point cells will need replaced. Or you may opt to replace the whole battery. All this cost our environment health. The cost to mine the materials, manufacture them, transport it overseas to America, ship them around the USA, then dispose of the nasty battery cost you too. It can be recycled and that is a good thing... You still have to do oil changes and filter changes on the gas motor every 5000 miles. Coolant change every few years just like other cars without the battery drive. And how much did you pay for all that extra battery and upkeep on the motor as well? So if you are doing it to reduce pollution, you have not done so. If it is to make the air better to breath, NOPE, that didn't do it either. Before you get all upset with me, I just want to share what it is the I do for saving my money, saving petrol products from being burned and allow for cleaner air, and help save our sewers, land fills, and again my cash. I drive a VW diesel car. A 2003 TDI Jetta Sedan, five speed with an up graded 5th gear set that allows my car to get an AVERAGE city and open road daily driving of 58 MPG. I've dome a couple other mods to the car, like larger intercooler pipes, a slightly larger turbo, and larger exhaust pipe, and better computer chip tuning that operates the engine and how it operates, and the very simple thing of replacing the stock tires with just one tire size LARGER.  Before making the mods and changes, my combined AVERAGE was 43 MPG. The big dollar savings I talk about is, I make biodiesel that sometimes end up in land fills, or dumped in the sewer system. It cost me $0.96 per gallon to make. Relates to $0.016 cents per mile average. I have no big battery to deal with, The TDI burns biodiesel and creates a little less than half the nasty pollution of gasoline burned in hybrid cars and saves me a pile of money. Another thing that is an super fun extra plus factor with biodiesel, my supply is a great Chinese food outlet and they give me 25% off my lunch when I come pick up the oil. I'm extreemly happy, they are happy, your life is a tiny bit better off because I don't buy petro diesel from Saudi oil fields and that small thing lightens the load on cost of fuel price used in hybrid cars. What does the Hybrid do for folks you and other folks. Besides run very quiet on take off?!?!

Smile In March 2011, I purchased a 2012 Mazda5 Grand Touring with estimated MPG 23-27. After 8,000 miles, my actual average MPG Is almost 28 mpg. To make it even better, the price was over $10,000 less than the asking price of a Chrysler Town & Country or a Honda Odyssey. My only cost for service thus far is the price of gasoline to drive to the dealer.
Although it is smaller than the Town & Country or the Odyssey; it has not been hard to adapt as it is so much fun to drive.

Glad to see the Hyundai's didn't make the list for all their 40 mpg vehicles 'cause I know at least a dozen owners of Elantras and Sonatas and not one of them says they get even 30 mpg not to mention the 40+ mpg that they're claiming.  Where's the Federal Govt when ya need them !!!!

Why do they keep telling people the Governments credit of $7,500 for an electric car will give you a refund of $7,500?  It reduces your taxable income by $7,500 so at the 40% tax bracket will net you a refund check over $2,000 not $7,500.

The 2012 Honda CRV gets 31 mpg and its not even a hybrid.  It should be on sale in about 3 weeks.   The Escape hybrid gets 32 mpg and costs $6k more than the Honda.    The Honda is a more reliable car.

The MSRP price VW Passat TDI starts around $26,000 and tops out just north of 32,000.  How can MSN make a $10,000 blunder like that.  They should do more research before providing misinformation to thousands of people.  To further clarify the MSN article, I believe that diesel pollutes less greenhouse gasses but more NOX and particulates.  Also, if you consider the CO2 that is released and the pollution that is caused from extracting the heavy metals from the earth to make all those Hybrid batteries, the batteries are worse than the diesel engines.  Hybrid cars may have a larger Carbon Footprint than a diesel cars.  Diesels often out perform the EPA estimates while hybrid and regular gas cars are usually far lower than EPA estimates.  The upgrade to diesel engine is comparable if not less costly than upgrading to a Hybrid.

Why do you not include the 2012 Hyundai Veloster in the 40mpg class?  It is a fabulous vehicle.
