I have been reading some of the comments on this subject., Seems it all boils down to Who has made the fastest car. We all know the current longest running selling cars for cops has been the ford crown Vic. It is my opinion and mind you My opinion does not hold much water but if we go back to old school. The Chrysler and Dodge products had the most speed and would not blow up as much as the other makes. I have talked to a lot of Auto Service repair guys and they tell me this was true. The Chrysler products of old held up the best under the most punishment any car could take. Those guys use to jump ditches with those cars and keep on going It seems like the new stuff from chrysler is starting to come on now that the crown vic is no longer being built.

The "Evolution" stopped when they started to use Crown Vics. Hit it in the back end and it explodes.
The only way to go is with Chevrolet. Impala for economy (and E85 capable) and good performance with a V6, then Caprice with a 6.2L V8 with gobs of power and still gets 30 mpg on the highway. Finally the Tahoes......2WD Pursuit vehicle with special suspension and capable of 138 mph, and the Special Service 4WD (not high speed capable) for great off road and Winter performance.
No one else has a selection like it and still has 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
Makes your tax dollars go a whole lot further!

how many people have cops killed in a high speed chase? you know the cops blame the person they are chasing when a cop has an accident and kills someone. if the cop backed off, maybe no one would be killed. i personal don't believe in high speed chase, unless they are after a killer . then i am not sure the high speed chase is the right way to go. it has been said and is true. speed kills.

In the early1970,s The car I saw the most was the Plymouth Fury. The cops use to tell us that car would do 140mph on a straight one or more mile of road. The city had them, county,and the State patrol. Before Chrysler bankrupted the first time in 1978. They use to sell most of the police fleets.

The Carbon is a fantasy vehicle and will never make it in the long run. The company cannot produce enough of the cars to meet a serious demand and the maintenance is woefully under supported. With civil liability and public opinion at an all-time high, police forces are likely to move to slower under performing hybrids in an SUV or sedan package. Chevy has a mediocre police package that will most likely take majority of the police business around the country. Performance is no longer a consideration when public opinion is the tail that now wags the dog.

Truthhurts402 is right about alot of the cities,and towns they do not need such cars with that much power. Dodge does offer the same car with a V 6 engine. If you are in a town that rarely has much traffic crime you might not need that power. How ever there are some counties, and State troopers that do need it. Not all but some. Even big cities like New York ,LA Boston Atlanta. They are so congested with traffic they would not need big engines either. Traffic is so bad the bad guys usually get away on foot or slide on to a bus.

I also remember the Alabama State Troopers Had those AMC Javelins. I saw them when we would go over to visit when I was a child. When I was a teenager (That was along time ago). They still had them. I use to hear the local cops say that was the fastest Car that any Police Dept had. If you tried to out run the Alabama trooper you would not get far .The Years I saw these cars was from 1971 thru 1974. Maybe there is a retired Alabama State trooper who could add more to this little tidbit. .
