I can live with someone choosing the Vette as the "best" car in America, though I personally disagree, but the last statement shows the author is out of touch with reality.
As great as the Vette is, reality is, the vehicle is priced out of the range of the general public. I'd bet the Ford Mustang would be "remembered" quicker and by more than the Vette, as they can actually afford to own a Mustang.
BMWs, for example, are based on performance and handling in what looks like a utility, (as opposed to sports), car. Cadillac, Mercedes Benz, and Lincoln are based on silence, riding comfort, room, smoothness, and luxury.
Porsche, the Corvette, and the Jaguar sports car are based on total performance.

Well I can certainly understand naming the NSX as the "best’ from Japan. After all, when it first came out it was probably the fastest and best handling non-exotic in the world. But to me the third generation Mazda RX-7 just has a much more iconic design, perhaps the most iconic design since the original Datsun 240Z. And as for performance…well, there's a reason that Road and Track magazine called it "The NSX Killer" when they first tested it back in 92 - the same reason that I still drive one to this day.
