I can live with someone choosing the Vette as the "best" car in America, though I personally disagree, but the last statement shows the author is out of touch with reality.

As great as the Vette is, reality is, the vehicle is priced out of the range of the general public.  I'd bet the Ford Mustang would be "remembered" quicker and by more than the Vette, as they can actually afford to own a Mustang.

The reason Japanese cars seem lame is because they are based on lowest manufacturing costs, lowest development costs, light weight, and complete lack of quirks.  That makes them bland and soulless, just like an ice box or a washing machine.

BMWs, for example, are based on performance and handling in what looks like a utility, (as opposed to sports), car.  Cadillac, Mercedes Benz, and Lincoln are based on silence, riding comfort, room,  smoothness, and luxury.

Porsche, the Corvette, and the Jaguar sports car are based on total performance.

You guys and Acura? Really, try to get out of your yuppie car mindset. If you want iconic from Japan then you should be looking at the Datsun/Nissan Z cars. The first world class sports car from Japan

as good as the corvette is, it is a based on a copy cat principle.  america did not invent the sports car.  we did however invent the big **** truck.  as a texan i would be remorse if i did not stand up for the pick up drivers out here.  while i am a chevy man, the f 150 has been the best selling VEHICLE in america for decades.  i say the pick ups, esp the f 150, are the best america has to offer, and are  the most memorable.

Sorry as a converted Corvette owner to Dodge Viper, the 2013 Viper will go down in history for an American Icon in  style and performance. Nothing has ever come out of Detroit as a production car with lines like this car has and the horse power to back it up. Great job to Chrysler on the rebound in this tough economy.

I had 3 XKE Jags, The best cars I have ever owned. The one in the picture would look better with the knock off wire wheels.

Well I can certainly understand naming the NSX as the "best’ from Japan. After all, when it first came out it was probably the fastest and best handling non-exotic in the world. But to me the third generation Mazda RX-7 just has a much more iconic design, perhaps the most iconic design since the original Datsun 240Z. And as for performance…well, there's a reason that Road and Track magazine called it "The NSX Killer" when they first tested it back in 92 - the same reason that I still drive one to this day.
