"16 full-competition 427 Supersnake Cobras sold to the public with a NASCAR-spec V8 engine, the 427 puts out an absurd 550 horsepower."
This is misleading. The "NASCAR" spec single 4-barrel legal stock car racing 427 typically dyno'd at about 700 hp. Horsepower TV recreated some of the old "425" horsepower engines of the 60's (Ford, Chevy, Mopar) and their stock 427 was 679 hp with the High Rise heads. The NASCAR engines had the Tunnel Port engines, which added about 50 horse to that 679, depending on tune. Oh...but the Shelby cars had 2 Holley 4-barrels, not just one. Not much gain under street conditions, but at full throttle.....Dan Gurney bitched bitterly about the sudden rush of power and how hard it was to control. Enzo Ferrari bitched even more bitterly about how his GTO's were getting their asses handed to them at every race. Boo Hoo.
Most "427" Cobras were 428's, or 427 medium-rise head engines. Both of which would have been better at street duty than the full-out race engine. Unless I drive.

I'm sorry but csx2416 is NOT a factory dragonsnake. I have researched this for years. The yellow car in the photo csx2427 IS a factory built dragonsnake. In fact acc'd to my research it is the only proven documented weber inducted cobra of all cobras, not only drgaonsnakes, ever sold new to the public. It is also the only yellow cobra ever sold new to the public. I copied all the paperwork from 2427 while it was on display at a saac convention where it scored a new record high in scoring and learned quite a lot. First of all a factory built dragonsnake has the word RACER on it's original invoice. Does 2416? All factory dragonsnakes had side pipes that ended by the front door jamb and had an add'l pipe under the car to under car exhaust. 2416 does not. you paperwork does not add up dollar-wise to stage3 dragonsnake it adds up to a stage3 racing motor, not weber inducted. Obvious evidence that 2416 is NOT a dragonsnake is it had from new the same size wheels front and back which is NOT how dragonsnakes were sold new plus the most obvious eveidence of all that 2416 is NOt a dragonsnake is it was delivered new with standard narrow wheel opening in the back that could not accomadate slicks. Look at the factory photos, it has road race tires on it. I bet it has an AC vin tag and not shelby VIN tag.Dsnakes had shelby. Dont go by the green 2472 it has a repop vin tag. 2416 is NOT a dsnake.

These cars represented America on the world stage and kicked ****! They deserve the utmost respect of every true gearhead no matter what your "favorite" brand is. Carrol Shelby was a visionary in the automotive world and our hobby. He was a true "Hot Rodder" with the ability to talk Ford into giving him the money to do it right. I never met him but somehow...I miss him....snif snif

A CSX4000 REPLICA being among the most significant Cobras ever built?
Puhlease,,, how much money did Shelby slip the author for that load of BS. The CSX 4000 wasn't even the first replica, it was just another replica among many. You can't BUY a name or change history.
Wait,,,, I guess you can, the author of this piece just did with that plastic CSX4000 baloney! LOL

Documentation-guy,
I am sorry but you are mistaken. SAAC's 289 Registrar discovered the information that identifies the car as a dragonsnake, as is reflected the current Registry entry (which is more current than the printed Registry entry). If you'd like to discuss this more in an appropriate venue (send me a message or email), I'd be happy to do so. But this is NOT the appropriate venue as you should well know.
