Back in 1964 I ordered a 1965 2 dr chevelle station wagon with a 425 hp 396 and 4 speed. Unfortunately, I went in the service before delivery, but I heard it kicked but. After getting out a buddy of mine bought a 1970 Boss 429 that was just awesome! Off the showroom floor it turned about 104 in low 14s and high 13s with the goodyear polyglass tires. With a slight mod, headers, carb change and slicks it dropped down to the high 12s and with the dual 1100 hollys and open headers his best was a 9.91 at 128 mph. And he drove it to and from work every day. At the time, searching dynos and data, it was found out that matching a Boss 429 motor with a 426 hemi with equal carburetion, headers cam etc, the Boss engine put out 75 more hp than the hemi. With supercharger over 2000hp!! The only problem with the Boss was even with 4 bolt mains, with a supercharger, it would throw the crank out the bottom of the motor in about 3 seconds. In semi-stock form, it would run at 7000 rpm all day long. Also, the 1100 holly was designed for the Boss engine.
