Nathan2011 is right. I have a VW tdi Jetta. I get more than what they would said I would in fuel economy, about 38 in the city and about 47 on the highway. The emissions on these cars are about equal to a hybrid. If the whole premiss of this article is to state the most 'Green Cars' why would you not have the only 2 electric cars that will be on the market, they only had the Leaf. These MSN articles are always miss leading and stupid in that way. You will definatly see more and more Clean Diesel engines, such as the BMW, and they still have more to improve on them, which is hard to believe. I think the car companies, need to stop jerking us around and come out with hydrogen cars. The technology is here just like that of an electric car, but they don't want to develop them (b/c of political and economical reasons of what it would do to the market, which is BS).

I love it when people think the Japs make the best cars! We had a 2009 Camry that had run away acceleration and almost killed us, plus many other problems. A law suit is pending on that piece of junk! We bought a VW Jetta TDI (that's a diesel for the uninformed) and the fact that this car is not on the list of the top 10 Green Machines shows how they let totally uninformed people make up these lists. The EPA highway rating for this car is 42, but we thought there must be something wrong with ours as we always got on highway trips between 50 and 53 MPG. THen we have spoken with other people who have Jetta TDI's and they are all getting in the high 40's or low 50's for MPG. It is a tremendous car. The new VW clean diesels have incredibly low emissions, and do not smell like older diesels, and are very quiet. A great car, and you have published a worthless article. Actually from all I have read, and all the many car of the year awards it has received, the Chevy Volt should have been number one. Why the bias against General Motors when they get something really right. I need a second car soon, and will wait for the Volt to come to my area!

With thousands of Chevy Volts on the road... it is clear that the "government" sticker is wrong. I have only read reports of much higher MPG's than the sticker indicates.
The lowest MPG for the first few thousand miles has been over 100mpg .. yes that is way more than most of the cars on this list. The "green book" obviously has gone with the Yellow Journalists approach. Say anything to get a response. The Plug-in technology of the Chevy Volt is obviously superior and is being copied by every manufacturer to some degree. This "green book" list is just another example of Government disconnect with reality.... must have been written by school teachers.

The Euros are still laughing at us. Over there 50mpg is low, they have cars over 60mpg on diesel, and we won't let them in. For goodness sake, I rented a VW minivan in Spain that got 38 mpg real world, and everybody over there still said silly Americans with their big vehicles. I drove over 2000 miles that week, and even at $4.50 a gallon my fuel costs were less than they would have been here.
