I am surprised the Chevy Avalanche is not listed here. Along with 6,000 pounds plus towing capacity, V8 power, 4 wheel drive with a real selectable low range the Avalanche comes from the factory with a weatherproof cargo area with 3 watertight removable bed covers. But what's unique is the fold down mid-gate that can accommodate loads up to 8 feet long out of the weather.  If that weren't enough, the rear window is also removable (can be stored on board) for carrying really huge items. With the mid-gate closed the truck's interior is that a full sized comfortable SUV with tons of interior room.

All of the vehicles in this report, except for the Ford F150 and Chevy Suburban, would be hard pressed to carry or tow anything near what a Chevy Avalanche uniquely can.

Since when do any cars help out around the house? I'd love to see either my Toyota do the dishes or my Volkswagen mop the floor.

On page 5, while Mr. Wilson has some very nice words about the Ford Ranger, He mistakenly says the Dakota will be discontinued at the end of the year, I think he meant the Ranger. We are due to stop building them in December. He is right that it is inexplicable that it will be discontinued when it earns about 5% of Fords domestic profit and owns about 40% of the small truck market. It is also best in quality in the small truck segment, and built in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant which is the most productive and best quality plant in North America for Ford. Ford has not invested hardly anything as far as re-designing it in almost 20 years, yet it still competes better than any other small truck. Why would Ford give up on such a popular vehicle?

My 2002 Avalanche Z66 is used to pull a 6800 lb race trailer, a 24 foot boat and a travel trailer. It's almost always towing. It's racked up 178000 miles with just 2 sets of brakes and one alternator along with routine maintenance. How many of the trucks shown will last 9 years and still drive as good as ever. Planning on going for 300000+ miles. Best vehicle I've ever owned and yes I've owned other brands. Would buy another in a heart beat if this one ever wears out.

The Avalanche feels like a car more than a truck, transports a family of 5 very comfortably, and can move a 10 by 12 shed on pvc pipes, with relative ease.

Had the displeasure of renting a Toyota Sienna last week while having my truck serviced. Quite possibly the worse vehicle I have ever driven. Blind spots so bad I was afraid to drive it. It wallowed down the road like a lost whale. Driver information center buried in the middle of the dash almost out of sight for safe monitoring. The only good thing  I have to say is that the engine performance was actually not bad.

I drove PU'S for years. One with a straight shift and street rear end would get decent gas millage. I found Bid Three used ones much more reliable and long lasting.

To the writer and editor of this article unfortunately dodge no longer makes trucks. The two Chrysler Group vehicles in your list are the Ram Dakota and the Ram 1500 not the Dodge Ram Dakota and the Dodge Ram 1500. To the person who says that Dodge = cheep you have obviously not looked at a 2009-2010 Dodge Ram 1500 or 2011 Ram 1500 know the facts before making such a naive statement. The Ram 1500’s interior has been called best in class by many automotive enthusiast publishers.
