Minivans have always been a solid choice for families with children. Our minivans were borrowed by our son the rock drummer and his band, and stuffed full of the band's equipment; with the seats out, we can fit a box spring and a mattress with room to spare for all kinds of stuff college kids need when they move. The reason the went of style was simple: they got labeled as the car that "soccer moms" drove and all of a sudden if you drove one, YOU were a boring, suburban person. We kept our vans and used them to carry things we could never have fit in a car. When our kids are grown we'll move on to something else. But for now, those vans are a big help. The newer ones with their drop down seats are amazing.

I found the headline amusing, since I've seen more minivans in the last few years than I ever did before.  They just make sense for hauling family, supplies, pets, large purchases, etc.  I can't tell you how many times friends and family have asked to borrow my parents' vans, because their own vehicle just isn't big enough to haul all the people they are going out with or isn't big enough to hold the the household item they just bought.

We took a Honda on a month long business road trip.

It was the most fantastic useful car we ever used.

Don't own one myself, but we sure remember how handy it was, and fast with excellent handling. And very impressive at night, with all the dash lights and gauges.

Weekend adventures and shopping trips were where it really sold us.

All the vans except the Honda look like they visually designed at the same time front bumper to bumper. The Honda looks totally freaky, with its butt grafted on as a complete after-thought. I think everybody expects more of Honda in the design dept!

do these have AWD optional? if not i'd rather have an AWD crossover. having the option of AWD when going through mud or snow would be well worth the added cost in my opinion.

We use a Sienna van on our wholesale clothing business at work and it helped as a lot financially. It has the perfect space for cargo and perfect gas saving. Having a Sienna at work and an Odyssey at home is really the best decision I've ever made.

@ Jay Murph,

I agree, Toyota has become complacent over the last decade.  Just trying to ride on a reputation that has been deteriorating over the last decade.  It took a crisis and a lot of dead customers before they snapped out of it and decided to try to get things back on track.  But that's going to take years to do.  I wouldn't touch a Toyota product for at least another 5-10 years after they've had a chance to re-engineer their entire business processes and start producing safe, reliable products again.

If you look at Toyota's current lineup and product plans, you can tell that they are going to continue falling for quite a while. There have been too few attempts at upgrading all their old-tech engines and trannies as well as who klnows what other components. They're satisfied to be Toyota, supposedly safe and reliable, just like GM was satisfied to be GM.

Consumer reports always favors Japanese Models over imports from Europe and especially the U.S. That's not my claim, just look. Nobody said Car and Driver is the bible, but Car and Driver, Road and Track, Automobile, Autoweek, and this web site all contradict Consumer Reports on any American car that's good and any Japanese car that's bad.

And just how old is that stock photo of the Sedona?

I have a 2008 chevrolet uplander, and for the money you can keep all the others. I paid $10k cash got a 3.9 ltr v6 seats 7 with 13k miles. So no thank you with the other garbage. Chevrolet made a big mistake by stopping making this van. But as a bankrupt company they never did get the message. The higher the price the worst the quality. They never learn.

Most of you people play with yourselves, Honda and Toyota are far better designed then any Detroit junk....that why they went bankrupt DUH !!!!  Also why , they don't make mini vans... nobody wanted their junk and those who bought it learned a lesson real fast !!! I  had a dodge caravan, 3 transmissions in 115,000mi ????? and they knew of the problem for 20 yrs. and didn't fix ...that's why they went bankrupt, the gov. should have left them close and not bailed them out !!
