I'll keep my "99 F-150 4x4 ......goes places that half of these vehicles can't.  If I scratch the paint, who cares?  It's not like I just spent $70,000.  Does MSN think its readers are made of money?  How about "Best Adventure Vehiles Under $5,000"?  Give us a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, a 2002 Ford Ranger FX4, a 1991 Suzuki Samurai, 2000 Nissan XTerra, and a 1995 Dodge Ram Diesel 4x4.  Show them getting thrashed on the trails.  It would be a much better read.....but then I guess MSN wouldn't get their kickbacks from the automakers.

Toyota's FJ Cruiser and 4Runner (and its' kissin' cousin the Lexus GX470) should be on this list. They offer extreme off road capability as well as the durable 4.0 liter Toyota V6 which is a far better power plant than the sorry 3.8 liter turd under the Wrangler's hood !!

My K5 blazer is the one that has to go and pull out of mud, sand or anything when these expensive crap suvs get stuck. I can replace my 383 stroker with the cost of replacing a part on those Mercedez or Range Rovers, and have more fun knowing that I can go anywhere without worring about scratching my paint or breaking down....Older 4X4 like my K5 were built for a purpose not like this want to be 4x4s driving around the cities with Stupid 22 inch wheels and so on...

Agreed, not all adventures start at the Rubicon. It was to appeal to a wide variety of SUV's owners with a variety of funds at their disposal. Also, it was to show what they can do straight from the factory. Not after putting 20K into it, then braggin about how much better it is than the new ones. I think most people can agree with that right?. Still, most would argue the Element and Avalanche could be replaced by far superior SUV's/trucks.

Happy Trails!

P.S. The Icon FJ-Looks cool, but not for $100K. Like previously mentioned, it has springs not coils (very low hanging springs I might add). What's with the crappy photo shop front end? (The first pic of the article) Anyone else notice this?

Icon FJ40.... originally the very fine Toyota Land Cruiser. Solid from the ground up, sealed bearings, raised air intake, sealed diffs, good power to torque ratio and ground clearance with the best of them... plus there are 1000's of mods to be purchased after market... one of the better trucks here,

Chevy Av?!?!  My H3 (Build off Chevy Av frame) is waaaaaaaaaay better.  Ive owned jeeps, hummers, and honda.  nothing beat my little baby hummer.  It's even pulled out a F250 out of the snow and Hummer H1 outa of 2.5 feet of mud muck!  This author needs to actually take those vehicles out and drive them off road for himself before writing garbage.  Half those vehicles are so pricy I'd love to challenage them off road if the owners could even stand to get a speck of dirt on them.

Honda Element??!  Get real!  What, is the writer of this article 15 years old?  I just wasted two minutes of my life reading this junk.

Even featuring a Jeep Grand Cherokee would have lent SOME credability to this article.

Looks like Charles needs to hit the trails more often - then he'd realized only 4-5 cars on this list deserve to be there.  The Honda Element is the perfect SUV for adventure?  Really?  The only mud an Element has ever seen is when the dirt splashes up on it when it's in the driveway.  The Avalanche is a poor excuse for a vehicle, and the suburban would flounder it's way off-road.  Please do some research next time instead of visiting the local Bass Pro Shop...
