A few of these water/road vehicles seem to be based on the 1960's Amphicar, which was a German-made microcar that was powered by a Triumph engine. The Amphicar used its front wheels as rudders, and had two propellers in the back. However, the Amphicar had problems with it not exactly holding water, since its bilge pump often tended to fail, and the sealed floor wasn't exactly watertight, especially in northern climates where cars tended to rust, further aggravated by being exposed to water when the Amphicar is used as a boat. These examples appear to be an improvement over the Amphicar's design, although they are priced so only the very wealthy can afford them.
