pretend suv? if you want to compare mid and full-size suv's then i can see no better fit to the acronym suv than many competitors in the mid-size segment. how sporty is an expedition or tahoe? with all that body roll you cannot possibly have much "fun" in even an escalede with 20 inch wheels and low profile tires which privide for much better handling. considering your idea of fun how can you even mention the full-size suv segment?

Turbo 9988: I believe you're mistaken. AWD is usually powered to the front wheels, until they start to lose traction, when a viscous clutch system engages the rear wheels as well, automatically and seamlessly. 4WD is usually powered to the rear wheels, until the driver engages all 4 wheels by engaging gears in a transfer case, either electronically, or most usually through a shift lever. I've owned both types, and vastly prefer AWD, as the driver has to do nothing, except in some AWD vehicles where AWD can be turned on or off via a switch (i.e. Suzuki SX4) or shift lever (i.e. Mitsubishi Montero Sport).

enthusiast... while i do appreciate your own personal success with the t-bird i cannot be convinced by that alone that gm or ford has anything on honda or toyota in the reliability department.

hey all i said was it was great. you may enjoy "fun" and care to make it number one priority just like all the car mags but in reality how much do you use your car as a toy for "fun" compared to necessity? an equal balance makes most sense. my acura vs your flex? versatility, luxury, performance, reliability, resale and fun? easy for me... and when you talk about fun we should mention my infiniti fx. probablhy the funnest suv in the game... and i still missed my acura from the day i bought it!

Also . . . the Ridgeline has the same system as your old Acura MDX . . . runs in FWD most of the time and only transfers power when wheels slip. Go drive a Flex, Volvo . . . both have the Haldex AWD system, among the best on the planet and drive much better than anything Honda.

I have driven many offerings from Asian car companies over the decades, I would not pay 50 large for a pretend SUV, prefer something in the fun-zone.  I drove an 88 T-bird Turbo coupe for 18 years while my buddy had 3 Hondas.

All wheel drive is always powered by all 4 wheels, 4WD only has two wheels powered [usually the rear two], to get 4WD you have to lock in the other two.  Two wheel driving should utilize less fuel.

hey auto enthusiast just to let you know i suspect nothing about honda's awd system with vtm4-lock. i owned an acura mdx 5 years ago and it was amazing. did better than my infiniti fx i traded it for.

you know...? i love how the main argument against japanese vehicles is "buy american" idea. hey i'm as patriotic as the next guy, but when i'm dropping 30 to 50 large on ANYTHING i'm gonna go with what i believe is gonna be worth it! it's amazing how you never hear that arguement when shopping for a tv or anything around the house... you think i'm gonna buy a sony tv because of quality but buy a chevy trailblazer because it's "american?" Please!
