I agree that to leave the Corvette out is a travesty. Including two SL cars instead shows an obvious bias. The writer obviously has Mercedes envy.

What's with the shoe ads on this site?

I cannot believe out of the top 10 convertibles you listed from "across all price ranges" you don't include a Corvette, the one and ONLY American Icon!  Pitiful!

From the top 10 convertibles for 2009, 7 of them are from Germany. And we wonder why the U.S. automotive industry is doing so bad, maybe we should look across the seas for help or get those old dinosaurs that call themselves CEOs out of a position to lead.

Started with a Chevy Coupe (52), wasn't a bad car but had one major repair. Next a 58 DeSoto which was a disaster, Purchased a Pontiac LeMans (65) which was a good car. Then three Fords (Company Cars) with only one minor repair over seven years, Family car bought in 1973 was a Ford Station Wagon with no problems after fourteen years. Replaced Ford SW with a Lincoln Town Car in 87 and had no problems. Replaced Lincoln with a Mercury Grand Marquie (98) and had Minor Stop Light Repair. Bought Ford Focus SE in 2004 for gas mileage and only replaced the battery lately. You would have a tough time convincing me that American Cars are not good,  Besides, I buy American when possible, as it keeps Americans working.

American made this day and time only means it was assembled here, and that's not always true because some of the cars you buy from Ford are actually assembled in Canada. At least some of the parts for GM and Ford are actually made in Mexico and Canada and probaly other places. I used to drive Ford and GM products and can honestly say that ever new vehicle I bought had something wrong when it was delivered that I didn't find until I had had it a few weeks, which had to be repaired when it made it's first visit back to the dealer for service. Both Ford in particular and GM products I've owned where in the shop for expesive repairs several times in the first 100,000 miles. That's OK if you just consider the inconveniance of haveing the car in the shop, when they are under warranty, but once the warranty is out typicaly the repairs have run me between $450 and 1200 dollars. A window regular for the last Ford product I owned cost me about $500.00 to have repaired and the window had probably never been opened more than a dozen times. My Camry just turned up 200,000 miles and has never had a break down. The only thing ever changed on the car was recommended maintenance items, break pads and one head light bulb and runs as good today as when I drove it off the lot. Gas milage is now about 31 to 32 mpg at 200,000 miles and was 34 to 35 when new. There's nothing made in this country that even comes close in my experiance of owning US made cars. If reliability and cost of wonership is an issue with the car buyer, then US made cars would have to be at the bottom of the list to purchase.

It's going to take a lot for US manufacturers to get people back into their cars. I switched from US to Asian cars and now both my daughters have and their childer will be raised and families tend to buy the same brands of vehicles. It's not just a matter of saying I got a great product , buy me!

Hey, did you know the Pontian Trans Am was america's longest running muscle car without a break? Bet you didnt know that.

BTW my subaru WRX goes 0-60 in 4.6 seconds(slightly upgraded), has never needed to be repaired(not even a power window motor), the Potenza tires last me around 40,000 miles(i know you cant say that) and i offroad the darn thing. At 112,000 miles, i've never had a car that could say any of this(well except the 4.6, my trans-am was a 650 hp beast).

Fact: most american cars are made in mexico and canada, while japanese automakers are opening factories in AMERICA... to pay americans? Who buys american now?

Edit: Ford says they have better quality than honda and toyota. If you believe that you have never driven a honda or seen one at 150k miles. Take it from me, an auto salesman working for chevy. Honda is the way to go for quality, and its a shame ford feels the need to lie.

And matt p1956, she/he was saying 1000 per year. guess you werent that good at math. Thats $10,000, not 1000

wait... in 10 years you put $1000 in the car and think that is bad?  ask yourself, how much more did you pay for your brainwashing... er, toyota?  $4K, maybe $5k?  I was pretty good in math... you could have saved a bunch and got another ford.  not to mention the intrest + you likely paid on that extra $4 to $5k.

at risk of sounding cliche'  have you driven a Ford lately?  Ford has hands down some of the best cars out there right now.  the Fusion (hybrid) gets better fuel mileage then ANY other car on the road.  The F150 is the most reliable truck on the road, the Mustang is the ONLY muslce car that has lasted the test of time (both chevy and dodge only recently brought them back) and the new taurus has got to be the hottest car I have seen in a while.

do a little actual research on cust care and reliability.  Toyota in the last 5 years has drastically dropped the ball while in the last 8 years Ford has made a steady climb back to very good cars.

80% of everything sold at Wal-Mart is made in China...Disney has 6,000 contracts with Chinese companies...so what is made in America besides the Louisville Slugger? Everything is global.

I will buy American because I am an American. Japanese cars got free land in Kansas, used Japanese banks and their own steel. How are we benefiting except giving up are land . By the way Japanese autoworkers are 2x more likely to get hurt on the job. When you buy American (anything) somewhere in this country a family will have food on the table for tonight. Did you know during 9-11, Japanese dealers had record breaking sales and never offered a dime to this country. The Germans did French, every other automaker but, the Japanese ( with record) sales . The people in this country who buy Japanese cars are blind, they can't see they are being taken for a ride.Sad
