The safest car is the one with the well trained and highly skilled driver behind the wheel. Tons of technological safety aids in the hands of an average (poorly skilled) driver will never match an outstanding driver in a basic car. Not pretty but a fact of life.

Like frostyross the only way to make a gm safe is to install a toggle switch for the ignition and replace the air bags with some from a car maker that cares about your safety. There are several better cars that should have been here other than gm, Volvos are usually safe across the whole line and Ford, Dodge, and Toyota makes more dependable cars, how can you drive something that is full of safety defects, they are always in the shop like the 4 I owned?

The Subaru they are also touting only gets its Safety Ratings at a price Above $25K - Who writes this 5hit -a car dealer ?
