Terrafugia Transition

Described as more road-going airplane than flying car, the street-legal Transition garnered plenty of attention in New York after making its first flight just a few weeks ago.

Yeah this is just what we need. Some one flying a plane that doubles as a car. Talking on cellphone, texting, reading, putting on makeup. Really? Got enough idiots on the ground now we fear the airways too.

my first thought: if caught speeding what happens if they just fly away? Now police will have to have them and monitor the air much more. Then whose jurisdiction is it once in the air?

Potential demographic - people who eat with a spork.

Can't wait to see them falling out of the sky, some professional pilots have trouble flying, can't wait to see the general public "flying".

I would love to have a car that turned into a plane.  How many times have I had to follow some serious idiot on the road and wished my car had wings??...

Fortunately the FAA still controls air space and the average person with only a driver's license can't just up and take to the sky without breaking federal law.

They don't give us any specifications about the vehicle so I'm unsure if it qualifies as a "Light Sport Aircraft" which only costs about $5,000-$7,000 to aquire a pilot's certification for.  Otherwise you're looking at $10,000-$14,000 for a private pilot certification.

Why would you want to drive this down the street anyway?  You still have to drive to an airport or find a good long stretch of straight road with no traffic whatsoever to take off or land.  If you used this as your daily driver, you're increasing the chance of in-air mechanical failure when you do take it off the ground.

When will the Pickup model roll out?

Using Av gas in a car can get you a $10,000 dollar fine (for not paying "road" tax).  I wonder if they thought it through?

When can I buy one ? I live on a back country road with little traffic so it would be great for jaunts to the corner store( 23 miles away)Sarcastic

I hope to God this isn't the 'flying car of the future' we have been promised for the last several decades. Talk about your dashed dreams!

What a retarded idea!

It's all over the news, too... They're probably hemorrhaging hundreds of thousands trying to promote this thing.

I'd hate to be driving, much less flying, near someone dumb enough to buy one of these things.  As another astute commenter stated, you still have to go to an airport and get a car.  Much simpler to buy a decent plane and rent a car wherever you're going.  Not worth it to fly this thing and risk your life with a substandard plane to save ten minutes.

Dumb, dumb, dumb...
