Who in the world was at this meeting?
How about the MGB, the TR-6, the 62 Buick Special Convert, 66 Mustang Convert, 68 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convert, 1966 Chevelle, 66 Corvair Convert, 66 Jag XKE, James Bond's DB5 ? Dustin Hoffman's Spider? How many Porches can you list? Geez
I have to go with the 427 Shelby Cobra. If this isn't one of the most popular cars of the past, then why are there so many replica manufacturers? Check out the web site for Superformance, one of those manufacturers.
Mine is a MK3 with a Roush 427 and I love it.
Yeah, I can see why all of these cars were chosen. The average American sees any of these cars at least a couple of dozen times a day-right? These cars are always going through the Barret Jackson type auctions-right?
Only rich people and dreamers covet these cars. IF you have some serious cash, you might own one of these new or used. I can see my local credit union gladly loaning me $150K to buy a nine year-old European exotic with no reservations whatsoever! Some people might be able to own a 15 year-old Porsche 911, but not many of them could afford to repair it or insure it. That was one of the cheaper cars on the list! I am not in the 1% or even the 5%, so these cars are mental masturbation at its finest to people like myself!
What the average American lusts after are the common American autos because they might actually have a chance of owning one some day. The '57 Caddy convert is almost as rare as these 1 of 50 or 1 of 12 exoticas. They must have screwed up letting that one or one of the rare and original 427 Cobras on the list! What about the Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, Cudas, Super Birds, Camaros, Vettes, Chevelles, Firebirds, Goats and other domestic "trash" that these morons didn't put on their list? How about a '57 Chevy or an antique pickup or a Thunderbird? Why aren't they on the list-they weren't sexy?
In my half century, I saw one (1) '57 Caddy convert at a car show, in all the car shows I have been to. Other than that, I have seen a few Porsches and a couple of Jags on the street and some Cobra clones at shows. That's about it. This list doesn't get my blood boiling, because I have never even seen most of these cars in person and never will. The mention of them doesn't get my blood boiling because they may as well be on the moon. I will never see one, drive one and least of all ever own one. People who own the cars on this list don't even live on the same planet as the rest of us. They are less likely to give two craps about sharing them at a show and they are now investments, not transportation or toys that they will take out and play with. Who cares? They may as well have put all Duesenbergs and Auburns on the list.
Can you say this list is WORTHLESS!!!!
What about Julian, cruising around in his black Mercedes-Benz 450 SL in "American Gigallo?"
Nothing with more sex appeal than that.
