I have been in love with the Pantera since I saw my first one in 71, belonged to a guy a few blocks away.I was 10 years old and I can still picture that yellow beauty like it was yesterday.Thats what cars do to a car lover.Today at 50 I have a Mallett Vette,a 72 454 Stingray and a few motorcycles but I will take that Pantera in a minute.Bone stock, black interior,it was and still is what dreams (for me) are made of. Anybody have one they want to trade? Hey,why cant a guy dream........

I remember driving the Pantera. The one I drove as it was in  our paint shop for new paint.
The owner had it painted Pink.
Yes, Pink Pantera, like Pink Panther...

I took it out for an hour with his permission.

It would hit about 120 in 3d gear, then rocket past that number into 4th and finally 5th.

Had the 350 ford and slotted 5 speed.

I was 17 years old...Cool huh?

I always viewed the Pantera as one of those unusual and affordable 1970's supercars.  Because it was an Ital-American hybrid, the important stuff (engine) was Amercan, and thus much easier to get serviced and keep it running.

Probably why there are still so many of these around today. There are always several for sale on Ebay at any given time.

I have not seen a Pantera since 1974. At that time I never heard of such an expensive car, $10,000. It was the proud possession of my Auto-Insurance Broker.  The following blog explains why my Insurance rates increased so much!!!

In 1973 My Insurance Broker (believe it or not ) owned a De Tomaso Pantera. I owned the first Japanese version of a sports car, The first Datsun ( then, not Nissan) 240-z. In fact I bought it at the NY Auto show, slightly customized.  My Father was Italian and fairly persuasive so against protocol they shipped the show car to the east side, and I got it.  My Broker, Tom, myself, and another enthusiast friend John who possessed a gorgeous V12 Jaguar planned something you maybe do once in a lifetime.  We obtained permission to use the pretty famous Bridgehampton race track for the day.  Not a simple oval ( boring ) It had 27 viscous curves to contend with.  The Pro racers taught us, first walk the track 3 times, then 20-30-40mph.  We were ready for individual elimination time trials. After 1hr. the Pantera overheated, He was soo, I though he was increase my insarance rates right there. The Jaguar was rated for top speed. However The Judges voted that little Japanese thing winner in almost all other categories, We had the Pantera towed back to Brookly, apparently more damage than we thought. I went to "Heaven".
