Though I realize it wasn't one of the cars featured here, my first car was a 1969 Chevelle SS 396, 350 hp, four speed.  Bought it used with 35K miles on it for $2000.  It was yellow, a factory color called Butternut.  Hated the name of the color, but loved the color itself.  I believe that before 1970, GM would not put any engines in their cars bigger than 400 cu. in, so the 396 was the biggest GM engine at the time (I could be wrong about this.  If so, please correct me.  I thought there might have been 427 Corvettes before 1970.)  I prefered the style of the 1968-1969 Chevelles over that of 1970 and beyond.  The 1970 Chevelle was much more rounded than the more angular style of the '68-'69, but it did offer a 454, which I think was the highest horsepower domestic engine at the time.  A few years later, the muscle-car era ended with the oil crisis of 1973.

My first car in high school was a 1953 Ford Two door coupe flat head V8,auto,duals with Black Lable Beer cans as exhaust tips and skirts, next a 1957 Ford Two door Hard top Thunderbird V8 nice car. Then after graduation A new 1963 Chevy SS 409, 425 HP with two fours and a 4 speed. I think my wife of 46 yrs. actually fell in love with the car and I came with it.I was hooked on muscle cars, I went to work for GM and then purchased a 1967 GTO 400,4 sp.what a beautiful car. When the Road Runner came out in 1968 I really wanted one, so in 1969 I purchased a Road Runner with the 426 Hemi 425 hp.4 sp.dana 60 rear,I had the engine reworked to 500 hp.what a beast, This was one of the fastest cars I ever had the pleasure to of owned. Buy the way the Hemi got 3 mpg. and the most expensive. I'am 68 now and still drive a fast car a 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0,auto black with the dark metallic grey stripes, and hood scoop. This keeps me young at heart.

What, no '69 GTO 400cu in fastest 1/4 mile street car of the time? What, no '69 Chevelle SS 396 double wide stripes on hood, roof, and trunk laying rubber in all four gears? What, no 4 speed dual quad positraction 409? Nobody ever wrote a song about any lousy Corvair.

I was very fortunate to own a few fine "Hot Rods" of the period, I was a GM guy at the time but I had an appreciation for all of the American made Muscle of the day. I loved my 68 Z-28 302 cu inch mighty mouse. Aftermarket headers and factory 2 x 4 holleys ( a rare factory option ) mallory dual point distributor, slapper bars for ( Some ) traction assistance...this car made tons of horse power  @ 6,000 to7,000 rpm. Very easy to work on in your own driveway....High Octane Gasoline @ 26 cents a gallon and a car with 6.5 mpg....yikes! What a great time in America. I traded the Camaro in for a beautiful Stingray Roadster BB powered...another great Ride...Wow, sure wish I had them back now. That Camaro cost me 3,600 bucks out the door. Now it's a very pricey classic...the Corvette like wise, "Untouchable" price now for mire mortals....back then it cost me 5,700 bucks...nice. I do regret that I didn't buy a BB Cobra Roadster back then...7,900 dollars.....Now what do they go for? Yes, those were the good old days....or maybe the Great Old Days!

these older cars were far more attractive and better in all categories  The modern cars looks like forklifts especially when you look at them from the back the old cars looked more lean and they all had individual looks but the new ones all look alike very boring with lots of plastic everywhere.
