2005 Chevy Cobalt we have would get about 35 on the highway and 28 in the city.  140 k miles and still not one issue.  Bought my wife a 2012 Chevy Cruz Eco, we get about 43 MPG on the highway and about 34 MPG in town.  These writers are not real world people, they live in their own little bubble where toyotas and hondas are hip.  Hard to get them to say a domestic car is worth anything.

My 2002 Saturn SL2 gets up to 37 mpg on the highway.  Surely newer cars, especially hybrids, should spank it in terms of mpg?

The Counter-Conservation mouthpieces speak, once again parroting the party line that higher fuel efficiency is available only at higher expense and lower performance. The only reality was their inclusion of the DISCONTUED GEO. If the oil industry commisions an article then it should be labeled as such. The Volkswagen Rabbit could hit 40 mpg for gas and 50 mpg for diesel. These are not EPA numbers for new vehicles but what real world "Beaters" in America. Low cost, high efficiency vehicles are common outside the United States but will not be seen here as long as the oil industry has it's say.

Ugh. I'd rather pay $10 a gallon for gas than drive any of these cars.
