Mercedes-Benz SLK55

What is it? A second take on the "tiny car, massive engine" template. The last-generation SLK55 AMG was blurringly rapid. This one promises to be even faster.

What's hot? The 415 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds. Top speed of 155 mph.

What's not? The lack of a manual option is always a kick in the teeth, as is the fact that most people who buy it won't appreciate just how much you can do with it.

How much and when? There's no pricing info at the moment, but we'll see it in early 2012.

MSN Autos' verdict: Is this the car to finally blow the SLK's girly image out of the water? We think so.

Mercedes-Benz F125 Concept

What is it? A futuristic 2-door, 4-seat coupe concept, with four in-wheel electric motors powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, boosted by plug-in charge. This means zero emissions and thus future-proofs the luxury car.

What's hot? All-new composite construction rewrites how to make cars, and a rethink of hybrid drives that goes 31 miles in pure EV mode before the fuel-cell range-extender kicks in. It's all supported by futuristic telematics.

What's not? Unlike other Mercedes research vehicles, it doesn't look ahead one generation, but two. It is thus a long way off — this is a concept for 2025, the company says.

How much and when? Naturally, no price has been set. Naturally, it will be expensive. Will it be as far-off as we think — or will elements of it emerge before 2025? Who knows?

MSN Autos' verdict: If this is how you'd like the Mercedes 4-seat CL-style car of the future to look — or not — let Mercedes know.
