Porsche Turns 'Green'
Porsche goes 'green' in Geneva with the all-new Panamera S Hybrid.
Porsche Panamera Hybrid
Porsche has gone hybrid-mad at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the highlight of which is the new hybrid Panamera S. Its introduction follows on the heels of the success of the Cayenne S Hybrid and the company's ubersexy 918 RSR Hybrid, which is making its European debut.
With a distinctly black theme, Porsche is also showcasing its limited-edition 911 and Boxster S Black Editions. Based on the standard 345-horsepower 911 Carrera, the Black Edition will be limited to 1,911 units and the Boxster S Black Edition to only 987 units.
Another European debut is the 330-horsepower Cayman R. Porsche is calling the R the "definitive midengine coupe," but with a hefty price tag of $84,000, the R will have to be special to warrant the extra over the Cayman S.

What is it? Porsche's luxurious 4-door hybrid
What makes it hot? The new Panamera S Hybrid is powered by the same 333-horsepower, supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine and 47-horsepower electric motor combo as found in the Cayenne S Hybrid, returning 41.5 mpg and making it the most fuel-efficient and least polluting Porsche ever made, "without sacrificing sportiness and elegance," according to the automaker. Say what you like about the Panamera's styling, the new S Hybrid version brings Porsche's "Intelligent Performance" motto to life to dramatic effect and proves that luxury, prestige and performance can be achieved with low emissions, too. Capable of motoring from zero to 62 mph in six seconds and to 168 mph flat-out, the Panamera S Hybrid has performance stats you'd expect of a Porsche.
What concerns us? The price, for starters. Sure, it's impressively "green," but more than $16,000 over a standard Panamera S seems like an awful lot of money to pay for hybrid technology.
How much and when? A Panamera S Hybrid will run about $140,000 and is available to order now
Our verdict? You have to admire what Porsche has achieved on the green stats, and for markets where it matters, the hybrid Panamera is sure to be a winner.
