To all you United States of America car haters:
congratulations! Not only have you pushed good paying jobs, skilled labor, pride of national craftsmanship, and independent ability to build something within our own border to countries other than your own. You have also pushed US auto manufacturers to improve quality! The Big Three have finally returned to competitive status! In some cases they actually outperform their foreign counterparts. It's a free market, in a free country, but freedom isn't free! Be objective, take another look at what the USA has to offer, you might be pleasantly surprised.

My new 2011 Camaro is a true performer. 30 MPG on the highway at 75 MPH that 6.2L V8 is just above idle. Timed it at 0-60 in 4.6 seconds making it just as fast as the Vett. Very quiet ride, superb handling and powerful brakes. CHEVY did their homework on this one. Don't need no stinking BMW, Mercedes or Lexus. I'll stick with made in America.

America needs to tariff import cars as they do ours. Sticker price plus sticker price as import tariff, plus 20%VAT in Europe. Do exactly the same thing to every import. They price our products out of their markets by doing this. Same should be done to theirs as long as they continue it on ours. Fair trade. they tariff, we tariff. $30,000 BMW add $30,000 tariff plus 20% VAT to pay down debt. Final price for your shiny BMW, $72,000. Sound fair to me. And before you start screaming about how they don't do this, I suggest you read the information by the Free Trade commission. Interesting to see how these countries price us out, while expecting, and getting concession from us. This needs to change.

When I was a Police Chief in Michigan in 2004 I invited Gerry Appey, the designer of the Dodge Magnum Police Vehicles to our small department with the then prototype Magnum. I invited other Police Chiefs to come and take a look at it, and a police-equipped Durango. I was so impressed that I bought my own 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T All-Wheel-Drive with the 5.7 Hemi. I still own the vehicle and it is one of the best, if not the best car I have ever owned. The AWD stood up to the Michigan Winters with the ice and snow and now I live in Albuquerque where some of the mountain roads will have ice and snow at the top and desert sand at the bottom. The car has yet to fail me in any weather or terrain. The only problem is, it will pass everything but a gas station. I'll just have to put up with that. The pros far outweigh the cons.

Why don't we sell more clean diesel as VW does in the US and Canada? Ford sells the Fiesta in Europe with a diesel option. The return on diesels is faster and the engines last longer and the resale value stays higher. Need proof, go to fueleconomy . gov and compare a gas vs diesel Jetta or Golf. These gas electric hybrid toys are a joke and are far more damaging to the environment than diesels. It's time for Detroit to wake up and time for the government to get out of private business. The last time I checked history this was called fascism. Let these companies fail if they can't survive. End the corporate welfare programs.
