I just upgraded to a 1996 pick-up.  Give me twenty more years to move to a hybrid.

Wow, Such hatred being thrown around here against this technology.
The problem it has become politicized beyond belief.  Many people on the right have demonized the tax breaks and money that is being thrown at this new technology in order to bring it to the market in any meaningful way.
I am a Republican who studies technology and I find this to be foolish.
Just because the left has put Utopian vision on this technology and have pushed the government to support it does not mean that it will not eventually benefit our society in a meaningful way.
The batteries keep getting better and cheaper.
So the question is do you want to propel your vehicle with cheap electricity created in the US or keep buying gasoline made from oil that is imported? Imported oil send money out of the country to wonderful (this is sarcasm) placed like Saudi Arabia.
But I guess it is better to keep paying 4$ a gallon to Exxon-Mobil.....

and the electric that's charging your batteries every night is probably coming from a coal burning fuel plant.

I have no idea where people who always seem to comment on these types of articles get their information.  We purchased a Prius 6 years ago.  It was the least expensive car we've ever purchased.  It now has 80,000 miles on it and has never needed any major work.  My husband drives 50 miles a day to work and back and consistently gets 50+ mpg.  It is quiet, clean, and a perfect car.   He easily saves $1000 yr on gas over you truck driving manly men, who clearly are overcompensating for something.  We will never buy another non-hybrid/electric car.  This is the future.  You can all keep fighting it, but eventually good will win and progress will be made.

Also, the battery life on the Prius is warrantied for 8 years or 100,000 miles, but there are no cases of batteries ever going out on them.  And no, it is not worse for the planet.  Check the sources on any article stating otherwise, they are always funded by big oil companies.

What we need to do is go to natural gas powered vehicles, not battery hybrids.  It is by far the cleanest & cheapest energy.   Unfortunately, Big Oil owns all our politicians and that won't happen until Exxon/Mobil stops bringing in $3 trillion a quarter in pure profits, after tax exemptions.

No, I will never buy a hybrid.  The production of batteries is an ecological disaster.  The disposal of these batteries is an ecological disaster.  I will not contribute to the polution of the planet just for better gas millage.  There are nonhybrids that can get as good or better milage than hybrids.

No, the replacement of a battery is too expensive right now.

I prefer performance cars myself (can't help it, I'm a die hard petrolhead), however hybrids have gone a long way from the prius...
That monstrosity looked like it fell out of an ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down...
The Fusion (just as an example) looks like a normal even resembles European premium brands!

I have a Volt and it's the nicest, best handling, quickest, most refined vehicle I've ever driven.  And I get 550 mpg (mileage depends upon driving habits).  Before I moved to VA from AZ, I was charging it on solar.  Even if it is now using electricity generated from a coal source, the $6 worth of gas/mo and $20 of coal generated electricity leaves a much lower carbon footprint.  It's a world beyond the Prius as far as comfort, performance and fuel usage, but I'm grateful for Prius for trail blazing.  I hope that this post stays away from the judgmental, ill-informed, soundbite post that is the usual standard response.
