Look at the price of a used Lamborghini on Ebay.  They arent exactly expensive vehicles.  Right now a 25th anniversary Countach with 6,200 miles is $80k.  Considering the car cost over $150,000 brand new I would say thats one hell of a decline in value for only 6k miles.  And why do these gets sold soo often with only 6 to 15k miles?  Because they really arent all that good for the price.

Yes, you can buy a kit car for a fraction of the price. But, Beware. Not all kits are the same. (You get what you pay for). Also be preppared to take a huge hit on the money you have in the car. They sell for a fraction of what you'll have into it. Cobras sell on average for 30K. You'll find that the average cost is upwards of 45-50 to build it.

We had a replica Model A made by Shay about 15 or 20 years ago, using a Pinto drive train.  Sounds like fun till you had to put up with the horrible quaility and fit.  The convertible top fit was so bad you would get just about as wet driving it in the rain with the top up or down..  Had to have the doors reinforced cause they started to fall off.
Of course back in the 60's i had a 61 Corvette and the fit of the fibreglass panels was a lot better but the same story about the top; if the hardtop was on it, it was passable, but with the softtop up it was horrible.  If you left it parked downhill and it rained the water would run down the decklid and down the seatbacks.  Best thing i ever did was give it to my X wife during the divorce..Pete Walls

Factory Five sells a great kit and what an adreniline rush when you hit the accelerator I own one and it is a head turner. Zero to sixty in under four seconds try to beat it for the money.

The factory five cars (and many others) actually handle better than the originals and have better safety features. They won't necessaitly appreciate in value, however you can actually drive them and drive them hard and put them away wet and they do hold they hold their value pretty well. They are still toys however and will still make you a car jack target so you still need to be careful. Thumbs down to those wanna be snobs that insist that no real car guy would drive a clone car because we car guys "do" and enjoy them every day and actually them to the track. I have owned an investment car before and I will now stick to well performing "driveable" cars because I can actually enjoy them!

Yeah, they're ain't nothing like looking at a replica Lamborghini....looks great, then they start up the crappy sounding Fiero V-6...............don't matter how many horses they can get out of it, no Lambo ever sounded like that!

I love that Sterling RX. Who cares if it's not a "brand name car?" or an imitation of something else. I wouldn't.

I've never heard of a Sterling, anyway, so in this case you could perpetrate the fraud of "it's a rare vehicle."

Real deal (that will again appreciate) baby Birds (55-57 T-Bird) can be purchased for less than the price of a replica. Watch the auctions. These cars are soft right now.

Used Cobra replicas can be purchased for far less than a new kit.

Way to many of you here are snobs (and obviously ignorant ones to boot) to the inth degree if you think that many of the kits aren't as good as the original or even better. First of all it depends on the kit manufacturer and the engineering and tech put into the kit. Second it depends on who constructed it (it can range from the kit manufacturer or licensed dealer to the individual themselves) and last it depends on the intention of the kit. Some are simply for looks alone such as the Lambo kit for the Fiero, it's a poser car. Pinning a specific on all kit cars shows you to be a neophyte car person. A definition of a kit car does not mean a car that has had a doner for chassis or whatever either. Kits are of a variety of types. Don't be so ignorant.

Anyone that pins the "extension of penis" bit on anyones likes for an automobile needs to step up and tell us all what it is that makes your blood flow. That's a term used by jealous a$$es or greenies that think we're evil because we love automobiles.

True car guys actually know things and don't talk out their a$$.
