Very poorly written article. All they mention are the HIGH dollar events with Petty probably being the cheapest (and least challenging - by their own design). There are High Performance Driving Schools all over but I am most familiar with the Southeast. You can take your car to the track, have a licensed instructor, and over one weekend get four to five 20 minute sessions on track each day. As you get better, they move you up in levels designed for you to run with similarly experienced drivers. At first it's follow the leader, then passing with a point by from the driver in front of you and finally all out racing. A whole weekend can costs as little as $250.00 for the event plus food, accomodations, wear and tear, and the other ancillary costs. Clubs offerring events like I have mentioned are the Sports Car Club of America, National Auto Sports Association, and many independent organizations. Check out the SCCA and NASA websites. I've driven Barber Motorsports Park, Road Atlanta, Carolina Motorsports Park, and Roebling Road just to name a few. My wife and my son participate also making it a great family event. I earned my Instructor License and enjoy teaching others which took less than a dozen events. It doesn't matter what kind of car you own, you will be taught fundamentals that will make you a much better driver on the track and on the street. Safety First! If you have a high dollar car you will probably be very embarrassed at first when Miatas come flying by you. It's normal and a lot of fun.

The description of the Frank Hawley drag racing school refers to "a machine more powerful than two or even three ordinary production cars". I know several classes of instruction are offered at Frank's school, and I am pretty sure they go up as high as alcohol dragsters, which are in the 5,000 hp range--not as much as the 8,000+ hp Top Fuel cars, but more like 20 or 30 "ordinary production cars" than two or three.
