Really? Like people didn't already know that dealers charge crazy amounts of money for the simplest things.

True story:

I took my vehicle to a dealer for an oil change. I know it's easy. I just didn't want to do it. Afterwards, I got the standard "your air filter and wiper blades needs to be changed" and then the usual "they are almost ready to fall apart'.

Everyone should have seen the look on this guys face when I replied, "oh really, that's odd. I must've bought used parts at the parts store because I just changed those two things last week". Needless to say, our conversation was over and I have never been back to that dealer again. I'll just stick with changing the oil myself.

I work on my on cars and trucks whenever I can, But this article left out some facts:

Sometimes you"ll need a lot more knowledge and tools than this article gives to change your battery. The battery isn't easy to get at and sometimes the cables are corroded and/or the bolts/clamps won't come off easily. The mount to hold the battery down can have the same corrosion.

That cabin filter isn't easy to get to in some cars at all.

The light bulbs and head lights are somtimes a major disassembly to even get at them.... On some models and makes I'd swear they built the car around the light bulb.

If you are going to do some of these repairs look at the repair book by Haynes, or some other book for your car and decide if it's too much for you to handle.

I am a 100% believer in doing your own repairs and online tutorials are the greatest asset for saving money.

Maybe it's one of the unsung benefits of having grown up in the country in a relatively poor family, but you learn to do a lot of your own auto repairs and maintenance yourself.  Although not in that same situation any longer it gets to be somewhat of a lifelong habit and hobby.  Once you have learned the basic mechanical skills anything from the items mentioned in this article up to a four wheel brake job, replacing wheel bearing hubs, CV joints, serpentine belts radiator hoses ans lots more is just a couple of hours worth of zen time  in the driveway, a good floor jack & jackstands and the right tools to do the job correctly.  Oil and oil filter changes are about a 10 minute job at a cost of around $12.

This ridiculous, firstly most parts store will install ALL the parts you listed for free. The prices are a lil conservative too, you would be getting the worst possible replacement for the prices shown here.  And if you didnt learn how to fill a bike tire with air as a kid and cant carry that over to a car I pity you.

DO NOT attempt to replace the battery in many modern BMW's oneself... unless one has the proper computer rig to tell the "Intelligent Battery Monitor" and the computer that chooses the alternator charging profiles that there is a new battery installed... otherwise that new battery will last far less time than the original did.  Seems nasty, silly and even scummy... but the battery "registration" process is imperative to making that new battery last more than a couple months.

That was a worthless article. If you can't and don't already do these things, I'm sorry...

I have Mazda 5. I like to change oil myself but I could not remove the bottom rubber cover (dust protection) because of a wierd bolt which looks like push on bolt. I tried all methods I knew but it did not come out. Could you explain and mail it

Do NOT try to change the bulbs in a VW bug unless you're a VW mechanic.
