TV show Route 66 made the Corvette a state of mind cool........and the Corvette had the style and options to back it up. For me Old school vettes the best, and that ended in 1970. U tubes has a lot of old drags and videos of vettes at the strip. Back in 1970, I was allowed to use 61 vette no top 283  for the weekend in Texas. Put a starter in it and went into mexico....shut it off...loked at the guys looking at me , started it up and drove right back........Ya do some stupid things when 18 yrs old......but I looked a cool  18 being stupid that weekend!

There was always something terribly exciting about the sloppy, loose raw power and performance, albeit antiquated today, in those old 62' thru 67' Vettes that I can still fondly recall.  You had to "drive" those cars, a misstep in your handling could easily have put you in a less than enviable situation.  This may be why the Ford Mustang GT's were and are so popular.  You have to "drive" them, raw and unforgiving power is thrilling, and dangerous! The new Vettes are essentially four wheeled fighter jets!

I didn't know there were so many car bigots, but MSN brings out the best of them.  I don't drive one to show anybody anything, I assume these commentators have no appreciation for a car with 7.5/1 weight to hp ratio that tracks like a roller coaster and costs less than 1/2 what you paid for that Audi.  Too much math for you?

Most memorable days of my life...My 44th birthday driving home in my brand new C6 and then parking it next to my restored 71 Stingray roadster. A lifes dream come true. Then driving to Key West a few days later on my wifes birthday.

Owned a 62, 2- 63s, 67, 73, and  driven most all of them. Favorite was my 1967 coupe. Scariest was my 62 with 327 CI. 340 horsepower. You had to be a driver to handle the 62, a real white knuckle ride.

Does anyone remember the M-TV,or was it VH-1, Corvettes give-away?  they gave away something like 28 or thirty cars.  one from every year of make.  i entered that deal i don't know how many times and just knew i was gonna win.  i didn't.  some dude sold all of them, for like a million bucks.  took the money and ran.  i would have sold enough to keep a few good ones. '54, '58, '63, '69 big block, '84 (year i graduated HS).  maybe a couple more.  anyway, the pic in the article of all the white ones made me think of this.

OMG! I just turned 60 years old summer of 2012. I cant believe I am the same age as the Corvette, and I STILL DON'T OWN ONE! I did get to drive a Used 1965 owned by a friend back in 1969. I remember it to this day. Like floating on the ground. Drove it for 5 minutes or so while my friend talked to a girl he was trying to pick up at the local truck stop. Those were the days, my friends, we thought they'd never end, but that's a different song!
