The Honda Fit ($15,325, 27 mpg city/33 mpg highway) has a cargo capacity that belies its subcompact outer shell. While its 57.3 cubic feet of cargo space is not class-leading, the vehicle's interior is versatile. For example, the 60/40 split rear seats can be folded to create a taller cargo space just behind the front seats. This area is great for bikes, houseplants, etc., and you still have 20.6 cubic feet of cargo glory behind the rear seats for other, larger goods.

The Scion xB ($16,300, 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway) has a knack for carrying gear with its 69.9 cubic feet of maximum volume. While not as configurable as the Honda Fit, the Scion keeps the storage innovation flowing. We especially like the xB's underseat storage bins, which can accommodate items you want to keep out of sight for security or aesthetic reasons.

The Corvette coupe ($49,600, 16 mpg city/26 mpg highway) isn't spacious, but its 22.4 cubic feet of cargo room is all useful. Two roll-along, carry-on suitcases and two golf bags can be stowed under the Corvette's glass hatch without obstructing the view out the back. Now, that's impressive.

The Sienna ($25,060, 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway) is the most configurable vehicle on this list. For example, its second row of captain's chairs can be slid forward up to 23 inches, tipped up or removed. The 60/40 third-row seat folds flat with one motion. The cargo capacity scenarios break down like this: behind the third row, 39.1 cubic feet; behind the second row, 87.1 cubic feet; behind the second row with the seat folded and in its full forward position, 117.8 cubic feet; and with the third row flat and the second row removed, 150.0 cubic feet.

The three-row GMC Acadia ($32,685, 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway) cheats the laws of physics. Its cavernous cargo hold provides a whopping 116.1 cubic feet of storage space with all the seats stowed. Retain the vehicle's second row and there is an impressive 70.1 cubic feet still at the ready. There's even 24.1 cubic feet of storage behind the Smart Slide third row that can be moved forward for added cargo room or back for added legroom.

This one is a no-brainer for the "size matters" contingent. The blunt square footage of the Suburban ($42,545, 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway) translates into a rolling warehouse, as it sports a maximum cargo capacity of 137.4 cubic feet and a similarly impressive 90.0 cubic feet with its second row still in play. Even with every seat occupied, the Suburban still offers 45.8 cubic feet of storage behind the third row.

From its one-piece appearance to its fold-down or side-opening tailgate, innovation is at the heart of the Honda Ridgeline ($29,350, 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway). But this rig's innovation is more than skin deep. For instance, its 8.5-cubic-foot in-bed trunk provides lockable storage that does not interfere with the capabilities of the bed. It's a great place to store tools, emergency kits and other road-going essentials.
