Rhys Millen Sets New Record at Pikes Peak

Driver tops the 14,110-foot mountain in less than 10 minutes on a newly paved course.

Charging to the top of Colorado's 14,110-foot Pikes Peak in a turbocharged V6 Hyundai Genesis race car this past weekend, New Zealand-born driver Rhys Millen set a new course record of 9:46 in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Millen is a Pikes Peak veteran who nearly broke the 10-minute mark in last year's race. This time, he added turbocharging and some aerodynamic effects, according to Jalopnik. "My experience at Pikes Peak over the years allowed me to shave a few tenths from virtually every corner," Millen was quoted as saying in a press release.

Also working in Millen's favor was that the course -- a 12.42-mile route with 4,720 feet of elevation gain -- was fully paved this year for the first time ever.

Watch all 9 minutes and 46 seconds of Millen's glorious drive, shot with a cockpit camera, here.

" a 12.42-mile route with 4,720 feet of elevation gain -- was fully paved this year for the first time ever."

It's not the same course because of the difference between part dirt/gravel and now fully paved. Not that his time isn't totally "bonzai!"
