The 2013 Mazda CX-5. Photo by Mazda.Mazda has announced pricing for its 2013 CX-5, and the driver-first 5-passenger CUV will set buyers back $21,490, including a $795 destination charge. Extras abound: The all-wheel-drive option costs an additional $1,250, a technology package runs $1,325 and the 6-speed automatic transmission is $1,400. (The well-regarded 6-speed manual comes standard on the Sport trim). Pricing for the auto-gearbox-only Touring models are listed at $23,895 (front-wheel drive) and $25,145 (all-wheel drive), and the top-of-the-line Grand Touring package runs $27,045 for front-wheel drive and $28,295 for the AWD crossover.

The base price for the CX-5 runs higher than the competition from the likes of Hyundai, Kia and Subaru, though Mazda is quick to point out that thanks to weight-saving measures and the Mazda's proprietary Skyactiv technologies in the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline engine, the CX-5 is the segment leader for fuel economy, with 26 mpg city/32 mpg highway for the FWD models with automatic transmissions. (AWD variants return 25/31.)

Any word on when Mazda is going to replace the 6?  I hope the next generation of the 6 actually has some "zoom" to go with it.

What's the pricing with the "Skyactiv-D"?

I think the better question is "what is the pricing with the 2.3L DI Turbo Engine"

You know, the one from the Mazdaspeed 3.

(Edit: a devil smiley was supposed to appear in this post, but I guess those are no longer appearing).

Um, yes. All-wheel-drive. Must have been wishful thinking for some RWD on the zoom-zoom crossover.

You honestly had me going when I ran over that.  I actually went to the Mazda site later when I got home to verify.

I should get an SUV/Minivan/Wagon to replace my Cobalt Coupe, I know I really should (in light of my family), but there are so many good 2+2 coupes in the classified ads

RWD in general seems to be more along the linse of "wishful thinking" these days. =(

Quick question, do you mean "all-wheel-driven" or "rear-wheel-driven"?  I only ask because that line caught my eye.  The idea of a rear wheel drive compact crossover definitely made me grin a little.
