Sebastian Vettel-Inspired Infiniti FX Headed for Production
Move signals manufacturer interest in future Infiniti Performance Line products.
Infiniti has been on a marketing blitz for its Formula One repeat world champion Sebastian Vettel-inspired FX, both leading up to and during the Frankfurt Motor Show. Now word comes from Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer that the Vettel Edition FX will not only see production (North American plans, unfortunately, remain unconfirmed), but will act as a pilot vehicle meant to test the capabilities of the Infiniti Performance Line team. The term goal is to develop the IPL into "[Nissan's] equivalent to [Mercedes-Benz's] AMG or [BMW's] M-series," Palmer says. The Vettel Edition FX won't be branded as an IPL car -- it's already branded with Vettel's name -- but it does show Infiniti is ready to test the waters of high-gloss, high-performance machines with premium pricing. Whether the company can pose legitimate competition to BMW's in-house motorsports division or AMG, obviously, remains to be seen. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section. Those who would like to hear Palmer's comments from the man himself can find the IPL-themed talk starting around 3:15 in the interview posted after the jump.

Highly doubtful, I feel. Infiniti's are too ugly at this time to sell to the masses. If they would simplify them back down and make them nice/classy looking (eg. 02-06 Q45, 01-03 QX4) and quit adding ripples/fish gills/chrome - they MIGHT be able to catch back up.EXPLORE NEW CARS
