Chrysler Announces Minivan Recall for Bearing and Hub Problem

The Chrysler Group is voluntarily recalling a small number of 2012 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Caravan minivans.


The company says that some vehicles might be equipped with hub and bearing assemblies that were not fully machined, which could make them less durable. If the parts fail wheel separation could occur, possibly leading to a crash. So far Chrysler has received no reports of injuries related to this recall.


All affected cars were manufactured between Nov. 15 and Nov. 21, 2011.


Chrysler will notify owners this month and will fix the problem free of charge by replacing the hub and assembly. The work should only take a few hours, according to standard repair timetables. Owners can also contact Chrysler at (800) 853-1403 or visit www.safercar.gov for more information.

Maybe the QA department for Chrysler should have tested  the part first before releasing it to the public then this wouldn't have happened in the first place.

Yeah, and maybe Honda should have done the same thing with their incorrectly welded CRV control arms. But they didn't, so they had to recall it.

 

It works the same for everone.

 

Funny, I never see you (and the other resident Detroit bashers) calling out Asian automakers when they do the SAME EXACT THING.

 

Ulike you, I realize that this happens regardless of where the car is made, and isn't just a "Detroit" or "Japan" problem. Occasionally things slip by, and it's up to the carmaker to correct it whether it's a part actually mfg'd by them or not.

Sure, and the public is going to believe that? Maybe the QA department for Chrysler should have tested  the part first before releasing it to the public then this wouldn't have happened in the first place.

In reality this is just Chrysler cleaning up one of their supplier's problems. Do you think that Chrysler has a factory somewhere that builds hubs and bearings? No, they purchase them from a supplier. So any recall such as this, whether it be on an import or domestic, isn't the fault of the mfg themselves, although they have the end responsibility of fixing the problem.

Hmmmm, so when a domestic auto maker recalls a vehicle it is being proactive or addressing customer satisfaction issues but when Toyota or Honda has a recall it is because they are crooked, sneaky and building junk. Quite laughable, thanks.

Glad to see Chrysler is being proactive and voluntarily recalling this small number of vehicles built over just a 6 day period.  If this had been Toyota or Honda they would've tried to cover this up, and when finally forced to recall their vehicles they'd call it a "safety enhancement".

Yep, looks like Chrysler is on a roll with the recalls. a fuel leak, faulty air bags and now this

I like how these recalls for Detroit are down played like it's not really a big deal by calling it "voluntary"
