NHTSA Expands Safety Probe for Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable
Ford vehicles face unintended-acceleration claims similar to Toyota's debacle.
A federal safety investigation, begun last week, into sticky accelerator pedals on 2001 through 2006 model-year Ford vehicles has widened, and may reach as many as 1.9 million vehicles according to The Associated Press. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 14 complaints of Ford Taurus sedans accelerating on their own, and as a result has investigated an estimated 360,000 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles from the aforementioned model years.
According to The AP:
A faulty cruise-control cable may be the cause of the problems. The cable can become detached and hold the throttle open, the agency said in documents posted on its website. In at least two of the complaints, drivers told NHTSA that their cars took off and ran red lights before they were able to bring them to a stop by shifting them into neutral or park.
So far, no recall has been issued. The complaints are limited to the Taurus, but as the Mercury Sable is a nearly identical vehicle, the probe covers both models.Beltway and VE,
There's a new problem for Ford involving the production of 10 years worth of faulty fuel tanks on Ford F and E series trucks. Yes.....that would be TEN years..between TEN Ford models.....Manufactured from 1998 to 2009. This problem has been hidden from the public by Ford.... until now.... This of course makes your continuous argument towards Toyoyta recalls Moot.
@A9256, Yes, you have failed because the article doesn't say anything about no accidents or injuries reported? Re-read the article because your just making yourself look stupid! I don't care about some other info you found online, I'm talking about this article. Reading comprehension is obviously not your strong point?
You obviously failed reading because that is not mentioned anywhere in the article. How about you follow your own advice and read the article instead of making stuff up?
Just_Great, I haven't failed anything. Maybe you should consider reading more than one source for your information like I do. It's amazing how much more you can know about a subject when you have multiple streams of information by which to increase your knowledge. Don't criticize me because I've read more on the subject elsewhere and don't have to confine my comments to just this article. That's your problem, not mine. You should be blaming yourself for having such limited knowledge on the subjects you comment on.
Look - there's no way that everyone will ever like one brand - there will always be differences of opinion etc etc, "can't please everyone all the time" ... So much for keeping it mature here and so much for American pride. All too often I hear talk from a person who had a problem (sometimes pretty minor) with one brand and that's it, they say never again ... the next time I hear the same person talking about the same issue it's 10 times more inflated, I guess in an effort to justify their decision. Whatever - I go by my gut - I try my hardest as an American to buy American and keep my hard earned American Dollars in the USA supporting American based companies. It just so happens that I've always had very good luck with all my Fords thru the years from Escorts to Rangers to Crown Vics. It's just frustrating to me to hear people complain about the economy or losing jobs or companies moving to China but these same people drive their foreign cars to Wal-Mart and load up on stuff made in China without even thinking about it. We have the money ... we're working the jobs ... it's up to us as Americans to do a better job, make a better product, and give a sh-t and think about what we're spending our money on ... I still buy Fords. This company is not perfect - find one that is... but it's American. As far as recalls go, every company tries their hardest to balance out recall $ with lawsuit $ - it's business. And again with leaving your brain ON .. I hear about some of these car issues, whether talking about Ford or Toyota, if your car starts to accelerate 'out of control' .. PUT IT IN NEUTRAL PEOPLE !! then hit the brakes .. BAM ! you're back in control. Sometimes I just don't know what happened to people .. it's always someone else's fault.
That's in contrast to Toyota's sudden acceleration problem that generated hundreds of complaints, hundreds of injuries, and over 100 deaths. IT forced Toyota to recall over 10 million vehicles, their dishonestly led to a Congressional investigation on top of the NHTSA investigation, and they got hit with $64,000,000 in fines, the largest in U.S. history.
Like I also stated, I will take a recall over a breakdown, with bills attached, anytime. My Toyotas never breakdown or require repairs, but every Ford and GM I have owned and over see at work do.
