Daily Driver to Dedicated Racer: The Video

Honda transforms stock Civic Si into a race-ready track warrior.

By Joshua Condon Jul 20, 2012 4:15PM
This is a pretty impressive bit of video from Honda, in which the team at Compass 360 Racing takes a stock Honda Civic Si, guts it and regears it for real racing duty -- including a Honda Performance Development-tuned version of the stock Si's 2.4-liter VTEC four-pot that achieves 25 percent more power, thanks to a host of upgrades including improved intake and exhaust flow.

Going into the weekend, it's enough to make you eye your own daily commuter sitting in the garage with the worst -- or should we say "best" -- of intentions.

This gives new meaning to the old phrase of polishing a ... It is a really ugly, drab vehicle with an anemic engine.

Seriously: why does the stock Civic not get the Honda performance improvements? Subaru recently did the same transgression: they put out a 600+ HP BRZ, while the stock is 200+ HP. WHY is the stock not 650 HP, when that is obviously doable!?!

Similarly, why does the stock Civic not have this 25% power-increased engine?
