New Quartet of Chrysler Ads Promotes Unity, Chrysler Brands

Follow-up spots to much-buzzed 'Halftime in America' ad to air this weekend.

By Joshua Condon Mar 30, 2012 3:03PM
Chrysler has shown a recent knack for creating buzz-worthy commercials, starting with the instant-classic "Born of Fire" (aka "Imported From Detroit") Eminem spot in Super Bowl XLV to the controversial "Halftime in America" ad, featuring Clint Eastwood, which aired during this year's big game and which has gone on to rack up 11 million hits on YouTube.

Beginning this weekend on programming ranging from the NCAA men's basketball tournament to the American Country Music Awards to "Mad Men," Chrysler will air the follow-up to those spots with a quartet of ads -- one each for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, according to AdWeek.

Olivier Francois, chief marketing officer for Chrysler and Fiat, penned a blog post about the making of the ads and the purpose behind them, according to the article. Francois says that each ad looks to explore the particular brand identity, but that "they are each intended to be stories of hope and encouragement," promoting the same unity espoused in the "Halftime in America" ad, which is that "in the land of opportunity, everyone has the right to dream and the power to turn that dream into reality."

Check out each of the four ads below.

RAM: "Tommy and the RAM"

Dodge: "Shaun in the Challenger"

Jeep: "Jenny in the Wrangler"

Chrysler: "300 My Son Steven"

Troy, coming from a guy that buys Hondas from a company that is 100% Japanese owned, your comments about the Fiat-Chrysler relationship look childish and disingenuous..

Chrysler must be doing something right with their advertising.

Sales were up 41% last month.  41%.

That was preceded in January with a sales increase of 34%.  A gain of 37% in December and 45% in November.  They have a lot of momentum.

Troy, what's you point?  Do you have a point?  Of course you don't.

Go check your mailbox and see if your Honda has been recalled.

Troy does bring up a good point Chrysler is not 100% American like they claim to be.

Gump, where does Chrysler claim they're 100% American?  Give us an example where they make that specific claim.  Stupid is as stupid does, Forest.

By the way, Troy, Chrysler isn't 51% owned by Fiat, it's 58.5% owned by Fiat.  You never seem to have your facts straight.

So, a commercial for Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler.  What about letting FIAT join and be a quintet?  Isn't FIAT now part of the family?  Personally, there is nothing in the lineup of any of those four brands that interest me at all.  All are either too big or too boring for my tastes.  However, the FIAT 500 has me seriously considering revising my "No American cars" rule to simply "No more GM".

By the end of the year I will probably be in a Scion FR-S, but the FIAT 500 Abarth is really tempting me.

Chrysler is promoting unity all the while changing over to an "Imported to Detroit" company.  Think about it. It'sp reventative damage control. They don't want you to know that Chrysler is actually more foreign owned than it is American owned and more and the fact that more of their designs are coming from Fiat.

Beltway,

I'm sure Fiat, in Italy, is happy that their majority owned stake, 51%, of Chrysler is bringing them in some decent profit. It's too bad that the company isn't American majority owned....(49%. )
