Chevy Spark Priced at Less Than $13,000
By Jake Lingeman
The 2013 Chevrolet Spark LS will sticker at $12,995 including shipping charges, General Motors said Thursday from the New York auto show. The Spark 1LT will go for $14,495, while the top-of-the-line 2LT will cost $15,795.
The four-passenger, five-door hatchback will come with a 1.2-liter double-overhead-cam engine with variable valve timing that makes 85 hp and 82 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual is standard; a four-speed automatic is optional and will cost $925. Fuel economy numbers haven't been announced, but with a curb weight of just 2,269 pounds, we'd expect the highway mileage to be near 40 mpg.
Features on the base model include power windows, auxiliary audio input and air conditioning. It gets 15-inch alloy wheels and a six-month introductory subscription to OnStar.
The 1LT adds a seven-inch touch-screen radio with Chevrolet MyLink, Bluetooth, steering-wheel audio controls, a USB port and three months of satellite radio. MyLink gives access to Pandora Internet radio in the car as well as Stitcher for music and podcasts. Later in the model year, the company will add GogoLink, which is an embedded smartphone app that delivers navigation and live traffic updates to the car.
The top 2LT trim adds fog lights, leatherette seats and a few exterior enhancements, including better wheels.
The 2013 Chevy Spark will go on sale later this year.

How times have changed, when I was graduating highschool, the SUV wars were in full swing.
Correction, the last under-100hp car was the 2001 Chevrolet Metro. Oh, how could I forgot the unloved little Metro? So there was a 7 year time span where it was impossible to find an under 100hp car in the US (ForTwo was introduced in 2008).
He wants a Scion but I said if I am buying it he WILL NOT HAVE a Toyota product.
I don't think I would be quite that harsh with my daughter when the time comes. Personally, I don't like American products. While they are competently designed, I find the workmanship sorely lacking and the styling just downright ugly on many models. After making the mistake of buying a Chevrolet, I have learned my lesson and I won't be buying an American car again. However, I shall impose no such restrictions on my daughter. When the time comes, I will give her a budget, I will give her guidance (I would think twice about a US made car, especially a GM, how about a used xB instead?), but all I want out of her is a detailed report on why she chose the car she picked, and to show she did her research and look for any possible pitfalls like recalls and known common problems. From her I am looking for good reasoning, I am not looking to necessarily agree with her.
And are you really sure you want to buy your 16 year old son a NEW car? I don't know about you, but my parents started my brother and I on a used Honda and let me buy a new car myself.
