Juke-R to Be Produced for European Market
Super crossover gets the 545-horsepower engine from the GT-R.
We reported last year on a Nissan Juke-R, aka Super Juke, that Nissan had in the works -- a Nissan Juke crossover containing the guts of the thunderous Nissan GT-R, including the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine from that high-performance machine. (In the Juke-R body, it pumps out 480 brake horsepower, down slightly from the GTR's 530 bhp produced using the same powerplant.)
Even though the Juke-R made its global debut in Dubai in January, Nissan has been mum about whether the Super Juke was just a concept or whether it would see production. Now comes word that the frumpy super crossover will see the light of day.
Nissan has announced that the Juke-R "will be made available to buy in a very limited run on a build-to-order basis." The good news is that the production version will have an even more powerful 545-horsepower engine, courtesy of the 2012 GT-R. The bad news is we won’t get it here in the U.S.
Nissan has confirmed that the Juke GT-R will be available -- but only for the European market. "With such a strong reaction, and with three genuine offers on the table, we decided we have to make the car a reality," said Gareth Dunsmore, marketing product manager for the Juke, in a press release issued by Nissan Europe.
“We can't let down enthusiasts who are this keen to add to their collection of cars,” he added. “The Juke-R has become something of a phenomenon, and I'm enormously proud of the impact it has had. The Juke-R was originally intended as a one-off concept to marry two of Nissan's most innovative models. But the reaction we had to the car in Dubai was amazing; people were making offers for the original on the street."
Nissan says it's already received "firm orders" for three cars to be built. "Two have come from a high-profile and well-respected member of Dubai society," the press release said.
You can get one for your London pied-à-terre by contacting Nissan at Juke-R@nissan.co.uk. Pricing was not announced. But if you have to ask …
