Bugatti Veyron Hits the Drag Strip for a Fast Quarter-Mile: Video

By David Arnouts

The folks over at DragTimes have recorded a Bugatti Veyron 16. 4 while it ran the quarter-mile against a tuned Nissan GT-R at Palm Beach International Raceway.

While the French sports car looked out of its element, it was right at home doing what it was designed for, going fast.

The Veyron clicked off a 10.175 seconds at 139 mph and bested the GT-R by 0.8 second.

With a 0-to-60-mph time of 2.5 seconds, a top speed north of 250 mph, and a price tag of more than $1 million, it's appropriate the Bugatti has a blistering quarter-mile time.

Why do you post a race that was not a good start race and  say the Bugotti is the faster car.

Personally, I'm not wild over either car.  However, there are a few points that should be made.

Buy Japanese ONLY,  you're not looking at the big picture.  First, that GT-R is modded, if not heavily modded, and the Bugatti is STOCK. When you talk about cars like the Veyron, you're also talking about a handbuilt car with the some of the best engineering, parts, and materials that money can buy.

SDer, it says a lot.  The GT-R had to be modded, and it still lost to a car that weighs over 4,000 lbs.  That does say a lot for the Veyron, which happens to be STOCK in this race

Several others are posting about how the driver messed up, and how he should've reacted faster.  Could've, should've, would've, what difference does it make now? Even if the driver in the GT-R reacted on time, the GT-R probably still would've lost, albeit by a narrower margin, still a loss though.  The GT-R lost, deal with it.

The other argument is IF.  If it had been the Alpha 9 GT-R, that it would blow the Veyron away.  Again, you're comparing apples to oranges, you're talking stock compared to heavily modded.

The Veyron also had it's rear wing up - it was in "handling mode". You have to put a key in the door frame to unlock "top speed mode" where the wing retracts, and the car is lowered.

Like it or hate it - it's an impressive piece of automobile. If you've ever seen one up close or going by at speed - it's something that makes you go "wtf was that thing?"

let AMS tune the GT-R and see who wins
Forget it. The Veyron has a quad turbo, 1000 HP 16 cylinder engine. No amount of modification will make the GT-R measure up to that. Come back to reality.

for those of you who don't know.  the timing mechanism doesn't start 'til the car leaves the starting line.

Not a bad video.  I expected the outcome to be closer.  It is the 1/4 mile, so only so much power can be put down.  I find it interesting that I run slightly quicker on my bike (10.09 sec. sometimes a tenth quicker and sometimes a tenth slower) yet have 5 more mph in trap speed on average...

Not sure how the GTR driver blew the start since that vehicle also comes with launch control.

As far as aftermarket this, and tuner car that, price difference....  Who cares.  At the end of the day, you are still driving a ______.  (Corvette, GTR, Camaro, Mustang, etc.)  While they are all great cars, it is still apples to oranges.

The Gtr lost at least .5 sec on that slow **** start, green means go stupid.
