NHTSA Expands Probe Into Chevy Cruze Fires
Investigation now includes 2012 model-year vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has widened an investigation, first announced in April, into fire risk in the Chevy Cruze. The original investigation was based on two reports involving 2011 model-year vehicles; NHTSA, having received an additional complaint involving a 2012 vehicle, has expanded the probe to include that model year, as well.The NHTSA investigation now covers about 370,000 vehicles, up from 177,000.
The complaints about the 2011 model-year vehicles involved fires starting in the Cruze's engine bay, with both cars suffering "total vehicle loss" due to the engulfing flames. The newest report is from "a driver [who] reported that flames burst through the front of a 2012 Cruze while traveling at about 45 miles per hour," according to Automotive News.
According to The Associated Press, NHTSA has requested from GM any reports of smoke, fire and overheated wiring in 2011 and 2012 model-year Cruzes, and will focus the probe on electrical wiring and connectors and on a transmission control module.
No injuries or accidents as a result of the fires have been reported, and no recall has been announced at this time.

A few of these bloggers like to only talk about recalls (see a name below) but I'll take a recall over a chance at death due to piss poor quality any day!

Funny you think you know so much. I currently drive an Acura RL. Cry all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that the Cruse starts on fire, Sonics' were delivered without breaks, that in ranking the order goes in quality and reliability Japan, America, and Europe. You don't have to take my word for it, do your home work and look it up. Funny how the facts laugh right in your face!
Yes you can try and knock the car I drive, but well.. chances are you have never driven one.

Where are the haters comments now? you Detroit fan boys are probably sitting at your computer with your panties in a bunch. I know you fan boys that follow this stuff were quick to pounce on a recall Acura did with a 5-7 year old TL, but lets face it, the flame starter cruse is brand new... I would keep my mouth shut the next time you want to talk smack about fail of an automaker. Facts are, Japan cars have less problems then the Detroit (so called American cars made in Mexico), and then the European automakers. All car makers have problems.. just some were a bad idea to begin with. (Cruse, Sonic to name a few lolz)
As for the Cruz investigation, GM just didn't need this after all the bad press over the Volt's battery pack......which turned out to be overblown by NHTSA.
Wow, looks like Detroit is on a roll with recalls, transmission fire and now a fire from the Cruze. So do you get marshmallows when you buy a Jeep or a GM now? Make you kind of wonder when they advertise Chevy runs deep do they really mean the recalls run deep?

Wow CNN needs to plaster this all over the news because driving a Cruze could be dangerous to the public because it could burst into flames!!
