Chrysler Recalling 119,000 Chargers, 300s

An overheated fuse could disable anti-lock brakes and stability control.

2011 Dodge Charger (c) ChryslerChrysler is recalling 119,000 vehicles for a sudden loss in anti-lock brakes and stability control in certain 300 and Dodge Charger models.

In a May 1 filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Chrysler said a fuse on 2011 and 2012 model-year 300 and Charger sedans could overheat, damaging the fuse slot and disabling the ABS and ESC systems. The problem surfaced on a Charger training car used by the Michigan State Police earlier this year.

If the problem occurs, the ABS/ESC warning light will appear on the instrument panel, Chrysler says. While the brakes will still work, in a panic stop it may be necessary to pump the brake pedal repeatedly to prevent the wheels from locking (ask your parents, if you've never done this). As for lack of stability control, well, now's a good time to brush up on oversteer, especially if you drive a 425-horsepower SRT8.

Dealers will relocate the fuse to another slot beginning at the end of May. If you're an owner, call Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 for more information when it becomes available.

Mr Wallstreet, as you stated,

side curtain airbags that will not deploy or head gaskets that fail on Subaru`s or, Toyota`s run-a-way Camery`s. Or Honda`s problem with headlight wiring that will cause headlight low beams to fail and leave you in the dark..... Or how about you Life`s Great that it`s "no big suprise" BMW`s how battery cable will result in the electrical system malfunctioning, the vehicle failing to start and, in some cases, catch on fire. Maybe the Michigan State Police should be driving around in a Mercedes-Benz where the power steering will fail leading to the vehicle crashing. It`s all true........Google it.

Yeah, imagine that, should you actually have one of these cars and experience this issue, you have to "suffer" by living with a car that has standard brakes like all cars used to have instead of ABS.  So what?  This is no big deal.  Compared to the list of problems that maccdaddy listed for other makes, this looks like a non-issue.

I'm pretty sure that plenty of people have experienced this issue with Chryslers. I have friends who have purchsed brand new Chryslers in the last six months and experienced electrical problems in the first month of ownership. The dealership actually charged the guy to fix the problem on his brand new car. Electrical issues are the most popular compliants for Chryslers on the net. I will not be buying one when I replace my cars. Oh, and the only reason this problem is in the news is because the company could not ignore the police department. Everyday folks are screwed.

This is no big suprise but I bet it's pretty scary to the police officers to think their ABS might fail on their car. I'm suprised no one else has come foward on this  in the public other then the police dept.
