Study Finds Speeding Tickets Most Likely in Nevada, Georgia and Alabama

Those heading to Indianapolis this weekend for the big race should keep a sharp eye on their rearview mirrors. Ironically, the Crossroads of America ranks 15th on the list of places where you're most likely to get stopped by police for speeding.
The National Motorists Association studied the phenomenon by using Google's Insights for search. Google Insights indicates the relative popularity (based on a 100-point scale) of ticket-related search terms in a particular geographical area—in this case, each state. The scores were calculated by averaging the relative popularity of numerous, related search terms for the states and cities shown.
The states were ranked, and the NMA found that Nevada writes the most tickets for speeders, with Georgia second and Alabama third. NMA says this method is not an exact measure, but it does correspond to its daily experiences in helping drivers fight tickets.
The bottom of the list consists of sparsely populated states such as Montana and Wyoming.
The top 25 have changed little since NMA last did the study in 2010. Only Michigan dropped out of the top 25, landing at No. 30. New states that cracked the top 10 for the first time include Maryland, Louisiana and California.
The NMA also ranked the metro areas that send drivers home with the most fines. That list had Atlanta and Los Angeles at the top, with Houston, Orlando and San Diego rounding out the top five.
