Recall: 54,686 Cadillac, Chevy, GMC trucks that could roll away
Faulty shifter cables, steering-column locks found on 2013 models.
The 2013 Cadillac Escalade; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban and Express; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL and Savana built from November through Dec. 18 are affected.
Either fractured shifter cables or broken steering-column locks can allow the shifter to move from park while the ignition is off or while the key is removed. The driver could also shift from park without first applying the brake or remove the key when the shifter is not in park. At worst, any of these scenarios could cause the truck to roll away.
Dealers will replace the steering columns starting Jan. 17. Owners can call Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463. GM said the problems were limited to certain 2013 models due to supplier and worker errors.
GM trucks have had a record of weak steering-column locks, particularly on the Escalade, which allowed thieves to force the shifter out of park and steer the truck without any keys. For 2012, the automaker installed a stronger lock.
In September, General Motors recalled 426,240 Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn sedans for faulty transmission shifter cables that could break and cause similar rollaway problems. In 2009, GM recalled 276,729 vehicles -- including the Saturn Aura and Pontiac G6, and Buick, Chevrolet and GMC models -- for more shifter-cable failures that could cause the cars to roll away when parked.
I made a deal on a Mercedes car not long ago, a hand shake with the salesmanager that I had bought a new Mercedes from for a family member a couple years earlier. He had agreed to allow me 3 days to decide if I wanted to pay extra for an extended warranty while he received the extended warranty price, meanwhile a couple days went by without hearing from him, I called, he said he had not received the price yet, so the next day I called again and just asked for any salesman and did not say my name. Wow, the salesman said the car was sold 2 days before that.
I think we should stop the boats at the border hauling Mercedes vehicles over here. So a few days later I stopped by the dealership and told the gentleman he lied to me, he then told me to leave the property. I told him I would leave, however if I did not walk fast enough perhaps he could help me!!!
Buying foreigh vehicles, and we wonder what is wrong with our economy. I believe we need to take care "of our own. I think GM and Ford build the best cars in the world at a fair price.
