Recall: Audi Q5 for Shattering Sunroofs

Glass panels on some 2012 models may break in cold weather.

By Clifford Atiyeh Jul 2, 2012 7:26AM
2012 Audi Q5 (c) AudiAudi is recalling 13,172 Q5 crossovers for glass sunroofs that could suddenly shatter in "extremely cold weather," according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Q5 has one of the largest glass sunroofs in the industry, sweeping across the entire seating area. (You'll know a car features an open roof this big if you see the words "panorama" or "panoramic" in the options list.) Last winter, some Audi dealers reported broken glass in the front section of the sunroof -- the part that actually opens, on Q5 models with the power-sliding sun shade.

Audi headquarters in Germany concluded that very cold temperatures were causing some of the glass roofs to crack. Dealers will replace the front glass panel on all affected Q5s starting Aug. 7, and customers can call Audi at 1-800-822-2834 to find out if their 2012 Q5 is under the recall.
