Toyota May Add PlayStation Telemetry Kit for Scion FR-S

Convertible versions of the FR-S and Toyota GT 68 and Scion FR-S could also be on the way.

Toyota is reportedly working on an onboard black box for the Scion FR-S to take telemetry measurements at the track and record data such as speed, lap times, acceleration, braking points and more.


While this is a common practice among track rats, the new twist is that they’ll then be able to upload and compare their the info -- and, of course, compete -- with other owners via a Sony PlayStation. Toyota is also supposedly mapping major racetracks around the world so that weekend warriors can find a venue nearby.


Details on when the track kit will debut are sketchy. But reportedly buyers of early models will be able to retrofit their cars with the system without hassle, and online tutorials and demonstrations will be offered for various tracks.


And to make the FR-S and its sibling Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ even more attractive, rumor has it that Toyota and Subaru have convertible version of the car in the works that could hit showrooms by 2014.

c'mon people. This is the future, not 2001. What, you'd want to be stuck with low-tech unreliable cars or the newer models with all sorts of gadgets? think about it for a minute before jumping to conclusions.

I still need to go test drive one. I like the looks of it and it's an everyday sports car which suits me fine. Way to go Toyota!

How about instead of spending money on Playstation, they spend money to put a REAL engine in it? 

 

Oh wait, those days are over, because engines don't come with apps - and anything without an app is useless (apparently).

I wouldn't care if all Japanese cars lasted a million years and ran on water. I still wouldn't own one. FOR SHAME. Support your country, not Japan's.
