Ferrari theme park on track for 2010
Ferrari fans with a passport and a little traveling cash will have a new must-see destination come 2010: a Ferrari theme park.Fittingly, the park -- called Ferrari World -- is being built on Yas Island, an under-construction billionaire's playground with world-class hotels and megamalls, luxury villas and championship-caliber golf courses that lies between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Plans for the park include an attempt at the world's fastest roller coaster (with speeds of up to 125 mph and a track that actually shoots through the Ferrari GT-inspired roof of the enclosure), state-of-the-art racing simulators like those used by Ferrari's own racing team, and a flume ride that replicates a trip through a 599 engine.
As it's still being built, there's no word yet on cost; knowing the brand, though, we wouldn't expect it to be cheap.
