What Does Papa John Love More Than Pizza?

His old 1971 Camaro Z28, apparently

By Joshua Condon Aug 26, 2009 2:36PM

A Camaro, a Camaro! My kingdom for a Camaro!

One very specific Camaro, that is: A bumblebee-striped gold and black 1971 Camaro Z28, the very one Papa John’s founder John Schnatter had to sell back in 1983 in order to raise money to save his father’s business and, in turn, launch the multi-national pizza chain valued at three-quarters of a billion dollars.

Schnatter, it seems was very attached to this Camaro, and went on a years-long hunt for his original ride (even hiring an ex-FBI agent to track it down along the way), but to no avail and despite a $25,000 – then, later, $250,000 - reward. Until Jalopnik stepped in, that is.

Through a long back-and-forth originating in the comments section of a post about the subject, Schnatter finally tracked down his original obsession, and the rest is history and free pizza for Camaro owners. Read the whole story here.
