Notes From Pebble Beach: UPDATE

A 'green' Bentley Mulsanne: True or false?

By Joshua Condon Aug 25, 2009 11:03AM
As I reported below, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made some strong links between the new Bentley Mulsanne and flex-fuel technology during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance award ceremony a couple weeks ago. And though I didn't get specifics the first time around, a follow-up e-mail to David Reuter, Bentley Motor's head of PR and communications for the America's, asking specifically about Schwarzenegger's speech, yielded this response:

"No, the governor did not miss-speak. As our environmental commitment states, all of our products will be flex-fuel compatible by the end of 2012. As Mulsanne is a 2011 model you can expect that it will meet this requirement by the end of 2012 as well. More information on how it will be specified from launch will be revealed at Frankfurt."
Cool. Still, I'll be interested to see the EPA numbers for this monster ultraluxe saloon.
