Mercedes Ups the Ante

Yet another supercar debuts at the Frankfurt Auto Show

By Joshua Condon Sep 10, 2009 2:45PM

(c)Mercedes-Benz USABetween the Ferrari 458 Italia, the new McLaren MP4-12C and this new Mercedes SLS AMG, the Frankfurt Auto Show is beginning to look like the freaking Justice League: a whole bunch of ridiculous supercars with uberpowerful engines in the same room, and your pick for a favorite comes down to personal preference.

(For a full gallery of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, click here.)

With a boosted 6.2-liter V8 -- a variation on the same engine from all recent AMG models -- that puts out 563 horses and 479 lb-ft of torque (rocketing the SLS to 60 mph in a blazing 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 197 mph), this new Benzo could certainly be playing the role of The Flash. It also boasts a dual-clutch transmission (a first for a flagship Mercedes) as well as an elongated hood and up-sweeping doors -- design language most clearly seen on the iconic 300 SL Gullwing back in the 1950s.

So, let's hear it: If you could have any of the three listed above, which would you choose?
