Scot sets unofficial miles-per-hour record ... for speeding
Lifetime. As in, never again can he drive in Scotland, anywhere. And the man is only 27.
Purves was clocked on his Suzuki GSX-R 1000 sportbike (which he's since sold) doing an insane 166 mph in a 60 mph zone. 166 miles per hour -- that's a full 27 mph faster than the record for fastest steam-powered vehicle. He pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving (no kidding) in Peebles Sheriff Court and will be sentenced Oct. 28.
I like this quote from his lawyer, Graham Walker: "He undertook an advanced motorcycle training course after this incident." What for? The man already hit 166 mph -- he's pretty advanced. Were they going to teach him how to go faster?
