VW Owners Take Note (Again):
More Fixes for Volkswagen, Audi
On the heels of the VW recall from earlier this week comes news that Volkswagen Group of America will be starting a customer service program aimed at fixing problems with the company's Direct Shift Gearboxes (DSG) in certain 2007-2009 models, including Volkswagen R32, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, Eos, as well as Audi A3 and TT.The problem stems from a faulty component within the DSG's Mechatronic unit, which causes "transmission performance issues under certain driving conditions," according to the release. As part of the customer service program, parts supplies are being increased to meet repair demand. Fixes will be done at no cost to owners, who will be contacted to schedule repair appointments; owners who have already paid to have the problem resolved will be reimbursed. The company's New Vehicle Limited Warranty will also be extended to cover the affected transmissions -- the extended warranty is for 10 years/100,000 miles and is transferable to subsequent owners.
